Fresh air, wind in your hair and the sounds of nature… Rural holiday dreams, right? Get a good dose of all the above at Shepherds Views Holidays, a small, family-run site on a working farm a few minutes’ drive from the village of Holmrook in Cumbria, North West England. Shepherds Views, less than five minutes from the edge of the Lake District National Park, is a top spot for an outdoor getaway. There are hundreds of walking routes throughout the park for all levels of difficulty – keep your eyes peeled for otters, deer, eagles and the elusive red squirrel as you go. If you’re more comfortable on two wheels than two legs, hire a bike on site and head off on one of the many cycle and mountain biking trails that crisscross the park, or follow Hadrian’s cycleway, which passes the Shepherds View entrance. You can also take to the water an hour away with boat hire, steamer and launch trips, and rafting and canoeing, or venture out of the Lake District National Park and head over to the coast, less than five minutes away, for swimming or exploring the beaches. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, make your way back to site where you can fire up the barbecue, pile it high with all your faves, then chow down with Rex stretched out next to you beside the campfire – if you’d prefer a break from cooking, there are plenty of restaurants within half an hour of Shepherds View.

喜欢 Generous pitch sizes, location, facilities were all absolutely brilliant. Easy access to fresh water. Our son loved the football pitch/goals and seeing the animals in the meadow.

The reception/store was really handy with a good selection of items. The firepits and wood available also great.

Most impressive of all were the really friendly hardworking, helpful and professional staff. Couldn't do enough to ensure a fabulous stay !

喜欢 Good site layout, good pitch size, and designated car parking spot next to pitch. Rachel was amazing and was very friendly and visible around the site. She also had some great recommendations for us and was full of local knowledge.
Location to Wast Water is great for a day out paddling.

不喜欢 8 toilets and showers for the whole camp which sometimes had decent queues at peak times (understandable). Would like some spare toilet rolls available near the toilet entrance or in the toilets as a couple of times they were empty (i took my own after the first time getting caught short aha) (Rachel was working extremely hard zipping around trying to dive in to check between people using them at peak times)

We have two shower blocks in total, 9 showers and toilets, our site is only small which means we have over the recommended amount.

喜欢 Fab site. Staff really friendly. Clean facilities. Close to the beach. Staff let the kids see the animals on the farm. The site was quiet and well looked after. Was missing nothing & perfect for a getaway.

We have two shower and toilet blocks which are more than adequate for the amount of guests our site holds.
We did have an issue with one of our showers and toilet blocks which i resolved as quickly as possible.
The other shower and toilet block was still in full use while the issue was resolved.

Clamber aboard the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (10 minutes’ drive from Shepherds Views Holidays) for a trip through the Lake District under someone else’s steam, then venture to Horse and Husky for horse riding and dog sledding. Making your way to Wast Water lake, 25 minutes from site, is a must too, even if you just stop and soak up the absolutely stunning views – you’ll feel your stress melt away. Active sorts will want to swim on over to West Lakes Adventure, 25 minutes from the site, where they can try canyoning, canoeing, rock climbing, archery, abseiling, raft building, mountain biking and paddleboarding. For a feel of what it must have been like to live that Upstairs Downstairs, Downton Abbey type of life, take a trot around the gardens at the spectacular Muncaster Castle, 10 minutes from Shepherds Views, or trip along to the stately home of Wordsworth House (the childhood home of poet William Wordsworth) where you can poke around the rooms, root around in the gardens and let the kids go wild. Kids still chafing at the bit? Get in the car for an excursion to Jump Mania trampoline park, Lake District Coast Aquarium or Lake District Wildlife Park, all within an hour of site.
