  • Peaceful site at the foot of the Quantock Hills
  • Three fishing lakes on site
  • A base for Cheddar, Glastonbury and the Exmoor and Somerset coast
Solo sorts, families, couples and most of all anglers… come and get sorted at serene and scenic Burton Springs, for a super stay in a Somerset wildlife haven. This peaceful place is at the foot of the Quantock Hills and a nifty base for getting out around the Quantocks, the west Somerset and Exmoor coastline, and smashing Somerset settings like Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury Abbey, both under 20 miles away. And if your group are fisherfolk? Cast off on site in the three handsome and well-stocked lakes: there's one each of coarse fishing, carp fishing and cat fishing to keep all angling enthusiasts hooked. Please note that fishing is subject to additional charges and must be booked in advance. (Non-fisherfolk have plenty of wildlife to see, walks to wander and quiet spots in which to hide with a book or three.) Burton Springs is well kept all round by its friendly family team, who've added a spankingly clean shower and washroom as well as a washing-up area for guests' use. There's also a games room for all ages, with table football and a dartboard, a selection of board games, DVDs and reading material, and a small play area in the pitching field with a pirate ship, climbing walls, slides and a basket swing. Food and drinks are available to buy in the site shop.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Beautifully kept site with every facility you could want. The grounds are very attractive with fishing lakes. Useful little shop which sells the basics and some frozen meals. Games room with books/dvd’s, kettle, fridge etc. Friendly owners. Clean toilets and showers.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (lake view)

Liked: Our recent camping trip at this lakeside spot was absolutely wonderful! The seting is simply beautiful, with vibrant green grass and mature trees providing plenty of shade and a real sense of being surrounded by nature. One of the highlights for us was being able to use our own fire pit perfect for relaxing evenings under the stars. The campsite also thoughtfully provides off-grid water and excellent shower and toilet facilities, which were well-maintained and with pleasant hot water. The convenience ofa campsite shop with delicious homemade food was a real treat, and its location being so close to the beach made it an ideal base for exploring. We highly recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a peaceful and well-equipped outdoor getaway.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful place to stay and I’m sure I will visit again, amazing hosts, very kind and gentle. campsite very clean and looked after very well, small spot but u get everything u need, could do with more privacy : ) Even tho I really enjoyed being there as most days I was out to explore . Somerset is beautiful ✨

Disliked: Mine pitch and few other people with no kids were close to the playground which made the stay very noisy and unable to relax. Kids approaching my dog without asking to pet( anxious dog) One thing which I could maybe consider placing families on the pitches around the playground and people with no kids further back. Don’t get me wrong I love kids and it’s lovely to see them play but I think we all have our own limits :) it will be nice to have some privacy instead of kids running around my allocated pitch and popping in say hi :)

From the manager: Thank you very much for your review. Happy to read you enjoyed the place and all the facilities that we do offer. It was a bank holiday weekend and we where fully booked, we try as much as possible to accommodate people, according to what they would ideally wish for. Unfortunately, sometimes this is just not possible. Also we do always request that guests please write in any notes, if you have requests, this helps us, to arrange your pitch before you arrive, as once pitches are allocated it makes it almost impossible to change things.
We will always try and if you can help us by giving notice, this makes a difference.

Would definitely stay again. Great atmosphere on site. Great location

Electric grass campervan pitch

Liked: Everything! An amazing site with clean toilets and showers and a well stocked games room for if the weather turned which even had a fridge, kettle and microwave for people to use

Disliked: The only thing (and it is really a tiny thing) is a small stool in the toilet/shower pods would be helpful as there was nowhere to sit and get dressed after a shower

Lakeside View camping pod

Liked: We arrived on site and were seen too immediately by the lovely lady host and her 2 dogs (which were so friendly!).
We were given loads of information about the site shop, communal games area, any activities and restaurants/pubs in the area.
We arrived at our pod and it was alot bigger than expected and so clean! The pods are fully equipped with cups and cutlery, washing equipment, kettle and tv/DVD player. We had everything we needed for a 2 night stay.
The site itself was great with fishing lakes, kids park and the lovely little shop, which sells great honey!
We will definitely be back and recommend to others :)

Disliked: Nothing.

Local attractions

Burton Springs' closest chunk of coast is at Burnham-On-Sea about seven and a half miles away. Seaside resort Weston-super-Mare is a few miles further along the coast from Burnham; for the Exmoor coastline, stretches of shoreline and sand like Kilve, Dunster, Minehead and Porlock are a short drive in the other direction. The South West Coast Path, Britain's longest long-distance path, starts from Minehead on its epic 630 miles via the coasts of Devon and Cornwall to finish up at Poole Harbour in Dorset. If this is a tad too much, other hikes around the region include the Quantock Hills, England's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; Brean Down, a Site of Special Scientific Interest managed by the National Trust, and the Mendip Hills, also an AONB and home to splendidly spectacular Cheddar Gorge. The Burton team also reckons guests should take a look at the small wildlife and adventure park Tropiquaria, the National Trust's Dunster Castle and Fyne Court, the Bakelite Museum at Wilton, the RSPB reserve at Greylake, and the rides and attractions of Brean Leisure Park. Paintballing is available at Cannington Park, nearby at Bridgwater.
