  • Family site on 47 hectares of gardens and woodlands
  • Within 20 minutes of Limoges and a lakeside beach
  • Pool, volleyball, fishing, games room, play area and restaurant
Well now, this is really rather pretty. Camping du Château de Leychoisier is a green and peaceful place set on 47 hectares of gardens and woodlands, around a medieval fortress shaded by centenarian lime trees and sequoias… and close to more pretty sights in Limoges, a French Town of Art and History, 15 kilometres away. Walks, mountain biking and quad trails are all available nearby, and it’s about 20 minutes’ drive from here to the sandy beach and nearby sailing centre of Lac Saint-Pardoux. Fittingly as there’s so much space, a good variety of leisure facilities are on site to keep all occupied in these scenic surroundings: the outdoor pool is open throughout the season unless the weather is unmannerly; there’s a volleyball court at your disposal as well; and a pétanque court is on site too (this last is a team fave, so do give it a go while here). Not quite enough for you? Miniature golf, ping pong, fishing, a play area and a games room are also around to entertain your regal selves, along with plentiful amenities including showers and toilets, a washing-up area, a launderette and a parent and baby washroom. There’s a shop selling groceries and local produce, but you may prefer to glide grandly towards the site restaurant for your eats and drinks instead; having one’s dinner made for one is much more fitting for a French château stay…

What customers say

Spacious, shaded pitches in a beautiful, historic setting near Limoges. Guests love the tranquil atmosphere, friendly staff, and grounds, especially the château and deer. Pool's a hit. However, facilities, especially restrooms, are often dated and need updates; some had hot water/cleanliness issues. Great for stopovers, but few on-site amenities like a shop or restaurant.

Liked Quiet

Disliked Scolding water, great in December but harsh in the summer. No restaurant or games room, although it does say so on pitch up add. Facilities outdated, not sure if it’s being run down ready for full closure. Very dark throughout, a few lights wouldn’t have gone amiss.

Liked Location

Disliked We stayed on this site in the middle of August at high season. It said it had a bar and restaurant. When we got there the restaurant was closed. As there was no shop we booked a meal at a local restaurant for 7.30pm. When we got to th gate the place was locked up with no way to get out. Imagine a forest fire and all the campers are locked in.

Nous sommes désolés que vous ne vous soyez pas plu;
La direction

Sir, we inform you upon arrival that the gate closes at 7 PM for the peace of mind of campers, who come to Leychoisier seeking tranquility. There is another unlocked exit, not to mention that the owner, whose mobile phone number is displayed on the sign in front of the reception, lives on the property and can therefore be there very quickly. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay; The management.

Why would anybody want to spend more than one night here is beyond me.

Liked Pitch sizes and very quiet

Disliked No shop or restaurant as advertised.
Gates being locked so no option of going out for food due to locked gates from 8:30pm. Shower water was a choice of scalding hot or cold, dated facilities. No site map to take with you.

Liked Peaceful campsite with helpful friendly staff and beautiful scenic area.

Disliked Restaurant and bar both closed, one of the reasons we booked sadly.
Toilets and showers functioning but could do with an upgrade and you only seemed to have constant hot water of no one else was showering.
Expensive for what it is.

From the manager: Madame, monsieur,
Sachez que le bar est ouvert de 8 h à 19h en continu 7 jours sur 7.
Pour l'eau chaude nous n'avons reçu aucune réflexion d'autres clients.
La direction est désolée de vous avoir déçu.

.Ladies and gentlemen, please be informed that the bar is open from 8 AM to 7 PM continuously, 7 days a week. We have not received any feedback about the hot water from other guests. Management is sorry to have disappointed you.

We voelden ons erg welkom! Genoeg wandel-en fietsgelegenheden. Voor erna kan je een lekkere duik in het zwembad nemen!O ja, en stokbrood en croissantjes voor ontbijt bestellen!

Local attractions

It’s less than 20 minutes’ drive from here to the famed porcelain city of Limoges, known for its fine ceramics as well as its 10th-century Crypt of Saint Martial, the 13th-century cathedral and the botanical gardens. If you think the kids might manage it, the city’s fine arts museum in the 18th-century bishops' palace is also a top spot to stop off at. Several other villages in the region are well worth a look: try St Léonard de Noblat, 35 minutes’ drive away, Mortemart and Montrol Sénard (both 45 minutes), and the settlement of Oradour-sur-Glane, destroyed during a massacre in World War II and subsequently rebuilt on the orders of C la Gaulle. A museum and monument are here to mark the event. Drive about 25 minutes from your château site to reach another castle at Parc du Reynou, home to a wildlife park housing hundreds of animals from around 130 species, including panthers, giraffes and the smallest monkey in the world, the pygmy ouistiti.
