  • Cheshire countryside pitches at a working farm and equestrian centre
  • Delamere Forest 10 minutes' drive; 20 minutes to Chester
  • On-site café; watch the equestrian competitions for free
Here’s a tempting offer for the horse lovers among you… a stay at Kelsall Hill Equestrian Centre gives you the chance to see top-level equestrian competitions and training sessions without even having to leave the site. This quiet site is part of the Organsdale Farm estate in the Cheshire countryside, just over a mile from Kelsall village and about 10 minutes’ drive from Tarporley. You’ll be staying on a working dairy farm, so you’ll be able to see the resident Brown Swiss cows while you’re here – but the highlight for most visitors is the equestrian arena, which plays host to a busy schedule of showjumping, dressage and eventing sessions on several days a week throughout the year. Entry to watch any/all of these is included in the price of your stay. At times when you’re not watching the horses do their thing, you can easily get out for walks, from a short stroll through the neighbouring Primrose Wood to a longer walk through Delamere Forest, about 10 minutes’ drive away. For other outings, Chester is close by and there are plenty of outdoor options including golf courses and a Go Ape course. Back on site, the dog-friendly pitches have access to all the essential amenities, including toilets, showers and wifi. The centre also has a welcoming café that’s open from 9am to 5pm serving up breakfasts, lunches, cakes and takeaway snacks, plus local ice cream to help keep you cool on warm days.

What customers say

Guests loved the friendly check-in and beautiful setting with wildlife. The cafe and Delamere Forest access were popular. Negatives included poor signage, few staff at arrival, distant facilities, early equestrian noise, and high bar prices, with some finding facilities overpriced.

Power optional cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked It was nice to see the show jumping in the arena on the Saturday afternoon.

Disliked The campsite is right next to the A54, which is BUSY! Very busy. Trucks, motorbikes, cars, vans - all thundering past at all hours. If you want a peaceful retreat for a night or two, don't come here. Getting any sleep is almost impossible. Bring your earplugs!
Also, the toilets are a good 10 minute walk from the campsite, in the main reception block for the equestrian centre, unless, of course, you want to brave the solitary portaloo on site!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Great little camping spot for close proximity to the City of Chester and Delamare Forest and the Sandstone trail for walks. The equestrian centre is a very interesting venue, we stood and watched a couple of rounds of the show jumping event, quite exciting and very well organised. The eatery looked great although we didn't try it. Very clean portaloo on the field. Great shower and toilet block a short walk around the centre. Dog friendly site. Aldi not too far a drive away

Disliked The nearby road was a little noisy with motorbikes through the day but it quietened down at night.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Staff were very friendly. The camping section was small but plenty of space and with the gates shut at all times was very secure.
The showers and toilets were extremely nice and clean. The showers had good power with hot water at all times.
Loved waking up each morning and having horses in the field opposite and also out on the track right outside the tent.
The views were great too. Down to the valley and the woods. Great paths for walks around the centre. The dog loved it too.
There was a port-a-loo at the too of the field which was handy through the night. Extremely clean.
Loved the site. And a great price

Disliked The water point was behind the gates that were shut so had to climb under the electric fence, until I realised there was another water point behind a caravan.

Liked Horses !

Disliked The facilities which are so far away and that we share with equestrians and which are thus very dirty plus no sink for washing up the dishes.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Good price and we had a great experience checking in; the staff were friendly and thorough in explaining everything we needed to know. The campsite itself is in a lovely area, and the toilets were clean.

Disliked The only downside was that our pitch was a bit far from the toilets

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked We had a great time, the views are impeccable! The horses and cows were entertaining. I enjoyed waking up to cows mooing in unison. The site is beautiful and feels like wild camping which suited us. We were treated with respect. Toilets and showers are open 24 hours and there is access to an outdoor water tap. In the evening it was lovely to see hares and hear owls. No mosquitoes! We would definitely stay again, we enjoyed the quirkiness’s.

From the A54, please use the Equestrian Centre access. As you drive in, you will see a V-shaped gate on the left, around 50 yards into the site. Please open the gates and let yourselves in, and make sure to shut the gate after entering to avoid loose horses getting onto the road. Please drive up into the grass car park area, where there is a herringbone arrangement of grass and hardstanding.

Local attractions

Start exploring your surroundings by walking direct from the farm, perhaps following one of the trails through adjacent Primrose Wood or climbing up Old Pale Hill (about two hours to the top and back). Other walks take you to ‘Little Switzerland’ or Eddisbury Hill Fort, and the long-distance Sandstone Trail passes through the farm’s land. Delamere Forest (10 minutes’ drive) is another good place for a walk, and it’s also got cycle trails, segway hire and a Go Ape adventure park for the daredevils. Forestry England also stages a number of ‘Forest Live’ concerts here in the summer, with major names headlining. If you fancy leaving the rural pursuits behind for a while, take a trip to Chester (20 minutes) to see the cathedral, the historic city walls and the classic black and white buildings of Chester Rows. Chester Zoo is another popular attraction, and there’s often the option of seeing more equestrian events at Chester Racecourse.
