  • Friendly, well-kept site at a North Norfolk family-run farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Blakeney or Wells-next-the-Sea
  • Sea view from site and access to footpaths; pub and café a mile away
Here’s a tempting spot for a North Norfolk holiday – The Tented Turnip is in the pretty village of Cockthorpe, a sweet spot that’s within easy reach of lots of the area’s main attractions but far enough away to make a peaceful place to stay. This friendly and well-kept site is part of a family-run working farm, so you’ll be surrounded by arable land and livestock to give you that chilled-out rural atmosphere. There’s a sea view from the site, too – and that gives you just a hint that this place makes an excellent base for exploring both countryside and coast. That exploration is best done on foot or by bike – there are lots of great paths and quiet lanes in the local area, taking you through fields and wildlife-filled salt marshes or along the coast for scenic and peaceful days out. And speaking of the coast, some of Norfolk’s top seaside spots are easy to get to from here: the seal-spotting hub of Blakeney is 10 minutes’ drive away, as is Wells-next-the-Sea with its colourful beach huts. The sweeping dunes of Holkham are about 20 minutes away and well worth a visit. Facilities on site have been kept pretty simple, with just portable toilets, a chemical disposal and a drinking water supply (please note no showers or hot water supply on site). Dogs and kids are welcome, and you’ll also be able to bring a barbecue if you like. The village of Stiffkey, a mile away, has a popular pub (with a great beer garden) and an independent shop/café for top-notch coffee and baked treats.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Just a mile away from the coast road, the campsite is a great base to explore North Norfolk but have peace and quiet away from the hoards- even in August.
Tons of space. Simple and easy.
Great place to cycle from.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Peaceful and relaxing with plenty of options of where to park. Great views of the countryside and the sea in the distance. Loos were basic but clean and well maintained.
Added bonus of chatting with the owner!

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Lovely rural quiet and relaxed campsite only a stone’s throw from a very beautiful stretch of the North Norfolk coastline. We walked to Stiffkey which is just over a mile from the site, and it’s then easy to access the coastal footpath. Wells next to the Sea, Morston, Blakeney and Cley are all only a short drive away. There are plenty of footpath nearby.
The site is a large well mowed open paddock field with plenty of space between everyone, and the owners are very friendly.
It is a basic site as described in the online description but our campervan can go off grid and has everything onboard so note we didn’t need facilities.
Great mobile signal which is always a bonus for Norfolk!
Stiffkey has a lovely village store which serves coffees and homemade cakes in their courtyard.
The site is only a short walk from The Dome on the old WWII Langham airfield. It was a training facility.
Binham priory is a few miles away and there are plenty of other places to visit in this area.
We will definitely stay again.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Basic, no frills site- exactly as described- it’s a field on a working farm. Fresh water, waste disposal and two portaloos. Absolutely no WiFi. Beautiful countryside. Stars at night. Laid back and peaceful.

Disliked Nothing.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Great view of the sheep on the hillside and lots of space to choose where to pitch your tent.

Disliked The portable toilets were a disappointment . They were very over used and therfore one ran out of fluid to flush and the other one was then so bad I actually gagged.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked So so peaceful and quiet! Well kept and no “set” pitch, which meant we could have our own space between each tent and didn’t feel cramped!! Port- a -loo toilets were clean and backup loo roll was on hand! Beautiful sunsets/sunrises. About a 5-10 minute drive into central Wells.
