  • Wildlife haven in west Norfolk: walk to the beach in two minutes
  • Basic and peaceful site next to the Norfollk Coast Path
  • Barbecues and campfires allowed; shop and pub a few minute's walk away
The splendid beach near Hunstanton Camping and Glamping (dog-friendly Heacham beach, two minutes' walk away) is the only east-coast beach in Britain facing west. This means that guests here are often treated to the sight of a spectacular sunset over the sea – a real rarity for Norfolk. As well being a romantic sunset spot, this location is also a very enticing one for watersports enthusiasts, hikers and families – plus dog owners, who are welcome to bring their pet along for a holiday and a ramble along the Norfolk coast. Hunstanton Camping and Glamping is on the edge of the village of Heacham, in a peaceful wildlife haven surrounded by open fields. It's three miles from here to Snettisham, five to Hunstanton and 10 miles to Thornham, all with dog-friendly beaches and walks aplenty, or you could feel regal for the day with a trip to Sandringham – and its woodland walking paths – within 15 minutes' drive. The site has a good selection of amenities including toilets (ladies', gents' and unisex facilities), four indoor unisex showers and a number of outdoor showers. Grey waste water disposal and chemical disposal are available for touring guests, and plug sockets in washrooms mean you can charge phones or use hairdryers easily enough. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed; a local shop a minute's walk away has most supplies you should need. There's also a pub a few minutes' walk away.

From the manager: We are absolutely delighted to read your fantastic review! It's wonderful to hear that our site was great for your family with kids (big or small!) and even pets. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.

We're thrilled you enjoyed our sunny spots so close to the beach and even managed to spot some seals – that's a truly special Norfolk Coast experience! It's also lovely to hear about the friendly atmosphere among campers and how much you appreciated the peace and quiet at night. We agree, mutual respect for space makes for a truly wonderful stay.

And thank you so much for the shout-out to Nigel! He genuinely loves helping our guests, and we'll be sure to pass on your kind words. Knowing you'd "definitely go back" is the best compliment we could receive. We can't wait to welcome you all back again when the weather's just right!

Liked Proximity to beach

Disliked Very poorly maintained site and facilities.Numbers of toilets/showers inadequate for number of pitches and generally very dirty dated and worn.

Hardstanding had been laid with builders rubbish including broken tiles and glass other general crap including bits of old carpet and plastic.Pitches themself are poorly defined.

Chemical waste disposal point completely overgrown with weeds.

Given the premium price being charged this site is very poor value for money

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We're glad to hear you appreciated our proximity to the beach, but we are truly sorry to learn that your overall experience with the site's maintenance and facilities fell short of your expectations.

We take your comments regarding the cleanliness, condition of the toilets/showers, the state of the hardstanding pitches (including the debris you described), and the overgrown chemical waste disposal point very seriously. This is certainly not the standard we aim for, and we sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered.

We understand your concerns about value given the premium price, and please know we are actively working on improvements to our facilities and site upkeep to ensure they meet the quality and standards our guests expect. Your detailed feedback is invaluable as we focus our efforts on these areas.

We hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future to see the positive changes we are making.

Liked .....

Disliked Site very run down & overgrown, we paid £40 for one night, no electric, just a cramped pitch, we felt it was overpriced, there was no liquid soap in toilets, the tap just trickles warm water, can't wash hands properly, the pitches were very close together, when we opened our side window the couple next door were literally outside the window. We had water next to our pitch, but it was so overgrown you had to fight with the bushes/weeds to get to the tap.
The washing up area was, again, very overgrown, there were no plugs in the sinks and one of the sinks wasn't working at all. I don't want to upload the photos I took because they're not good , and I feel that with some time & effort and a lot of work, this place could be lovely, the owner was lovely & friendly and I don't feel good about leaving a bad review but I'm afraid this place is nothing like the website. Such a shame as it looked amazing on their website and could be an absolute gem of a campsite

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We're truly sorry to read about your disappointing experience during your recent one-night stay with us. While we appreciate you highlighting the lovely and friendly interaction with the owner, we are genuinely concerned to hear that the site itself fell so far short of your expectations, especially given how it appeared on our website.

We take your detailed feedback about the run-down and overgrown condition of the site, the cramped pitch without electric for £40, and the issues with the toilet facilities (lack of soap, poor water pressure/temperature) very seriously. We also acknowledge your frustration with the overgrown water tap access, the state of the washing-up area (missing plugs, non-working sink), and the close proximity of the pitches. This is certainly not the standard we aim to provide, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and discomfort this caused.

Your comments about the site not matching the website's portrayal and the feeling of poor value are particularly concerning to us. Please know that we are actively reviewing all aspects of our site maintenance and facilities. Your comprehensive feedback is invaluable as it highlights the specific areas where we urgently need to dedicate our time and effort. We agree that with significant work, our site has the potential to be the "absolute gem" you envision.

We truly regret that your stay wasn't the pleasant experience it should have been. Thank you for taking the time to provide such honest and constructive criticism; it gives us clear direction on where we need to improve.

From the manager: Thank you for your review! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the great staff and found our spot so close to the beach and the path into Hunstanton. Those are definitely some of our favorite aspects too.

We also appreciate your honest feedback about being surrounded by other caravan parks. We understand that this isn't everyone's ideal view, and we appreciate you highlighting it. We're always looking for ways to enhance our guests' experience within our unique location.

The site is behind the sea defences: watch out as you head towards the sea. The site is the last farm building on the left-hand side of the road. From the A149 at King's Lynn, turn left towards Heacham South Beach (Lamsey Lane). Then, turn left again towards the beach and turn left into the campsite when you can see the sea in front of you (roughly 1000 yards before the beach).

Local attractions

Nature fans rejoice, for there's birdwatching galore around here. Make for the RSPB reserve in Snettisham for flocks of birds around the Wash, or for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (20 minutes' drive) to see avocets, marsh harriers and pink-footed geese around its marshlands, reedbeds and freshwater lagoons. Titchwell has a wide sandy beach to investigate too, where scenery seekers can snap far-reaching views across the Wash. Boating and watersports are easily accessed just down the coast at Hunstanton. The town's also home to the rides of Rainbow Park fairground, and the Sea Life Sanctuary next door where you and curious kids can see seals, penguins, otters and other watery species. Other recommended options include Norfolk Lavender, five minutes' drive away at Caley Mill, and the 12th-century ruins of Castle Rising (15 minutes), one of the biggest and best preserved keeps in England.
