  • Family- and dog-friendly site a mile from stunning Mousehole harbour
  • Ramblers’ paradise: easy access to the South West Coast Path
  • A 25-minute drive from Land's End, 20 minutes from top surfing spots
Cornish beaches, busy towns and a scenic fishing village with a great story… You get it all at Mousehole Camping, a peaceful family site in the village of Paul, five minutes’ drive from Mousehole and 15 minutes from Penzance. Mousehole Camping is a prime spot to base yourself for some exploration of Cornwall: in nearby Penzance, you can pick up the South West Coast Path and the St Ives Bay Line, bringing the dog along so the two of you can call into some of the dog-friendly pubs along the route. Make your way into Mousehole and down to the harbour to laze on the beach or do as the locals do and fish… then wander the cobbled streets, nose around galleries and local shops, and eat at the fishy-focused restaurants. Back on site, Mousehole Camping is in the grounds of a local football club, where matches can occur at short notice (the site tries to minimise the disruption but bear this in mind). Guests get free entry to the football matches, where a clubhouse bar is open on match days. The facilities (a couple of minutes' walk from the main camping area) are shared with the football club and include a toilet, showers (within the changing rooms) and an accessible toilet/shower room. On match days, the shower and washing-up area are shut, while the toilets remain open, and during low season, only the accessible toilet/shower room are open (and cleaned on an ad-hoc basis). There's also wifi. Barbecues are allowed: pick up supplies from the supermarkets in Penzance or fresh fish from the port in Newlyn, five minutes away. If you’d prefer a break from cooking, stroll to the village pub for some food and drinks, or try one of the restaurants within 15 minutes of the site. Please note that this site is run by volunteers. From mid-September until Easter, there are no permanent staff on site. As a peaceful site, music should be kept to a minimum and quiet hours begin at 10pm.

Liked: Peaceful , level campsite , with a ten minute walk to an excellent village pub. We had a friendly welcome.

Disliked: Nothing, but did not inspect facilities as they were a 5 min walk away. (Only there one night)

Liked: Close to Mousehole, friendly staff at the football club

Disliked: Facilities are far from the pitches, I’d hate to be in a tent and having to get out for the loo in the night! Shower room in need of attention- mould, flaky paint, rusty holders. The shower didn’t get hot either. This site was expensive at £25 for the night given the poor facilities in comparison to other cheaper sites. Had it been a tenner cheaper I’d have given a much better review as you get what you pay for!

From the manager: Hi,

Thanks for leaving a review. Sorry to see you didn't enjoy your stay.
We do wish you had notified us a out the shower at the time, unfortunately surely the trip switch to the power shower had tripped. This would have been a 30 second fix if we had known.

Maybe try us again in the summer, when our full facilities are open and the weather is better.

Liked: Great location for walking & only a few miles from Land's End.
Mousehole is a short walk (although a big hill) and is beautiful.
Great food at the pub 5 minutes walk away.
Plenty of room for the dogs.
Enjoyed the football!

Disliked: Only one unisex toilet/shower room for the whole site unless the football toilets were open. On a Saturday morning there was a queue of 4 people and you had no idea whether someone was in the shower or how long you would have to wait. However, it was clear when booking that the site had limited shower/toilet facilities during low season.

From the manager: Hi,

Thanks for leaving us a review, glad you enjoyed your stay and the area around.

Glad you were aware of our facilities at the time of your stay.
Our full facilities are now open, so if you do come back, hopefully there won’t be such a queue.

Liked: The camp site was quiet, no football matches while we were staying. The campsite volunteers were very cheerful our welcome was good.there was water and somewhere to dispose of the chemical toilet contents. The shower was hot the information in relation to the off peak facilities is clear. Signs were clear and the we were lucky with the weather. There is good information in relation to the public transport system, the walk to Mousehole is lovely, we also walked to Penzance via Newlyn and to Lamorna cove. The pub in Paul a 5 minute walk is lovely, reasonably priced and welcoming.

Disliked: We did not dislike anything however the wi fi was very patchy for us this wasn’t important.
I think if the campsite had been a little busier only having one shower and loo together could have been a bit of an issue. Or if they had been closed due to matches being played. The site information is very clear on this point though so it should not be a surprise just something to be aware of if you are camping as a family.
It would have been helpful to have a drain to empty our camper van water tank into before leaving.

From the manager: Hi,

Thanks for leaving a review. Glad you enjoyed our site and your stay in the area.

The shower is never closed during matches and is always available to campers. We do understand that it is not ideal still, however during the low season we do advise that guests are mostly self contained. During the high season, we do not have football matches so this isnt. an issue.

Liked: Pleasant area, level hardstanding, good location, peaceful. All facilities (not incl toilet/showers) clean and tidy. Good instructions and we knew exactly what to expect. Arriving and departing hassle free.

Disliked: Wi-fi poor, Disabled shower/loo not the best. Grassed area for our pitch (1) became waterlogged after rain, meaning puddles in the grass including one under our awning. (Other pitches looked fine)

From the manager: Hi,

Thanks for leaving a review. Glad you enjoyed our site and your stay in the area.

Sorry your pitch got wet, unfortunately the area does get quite a lot of rain during the winter and spring, we do advise that during the low season the grass pitches aren't to be used.

Please try us again in the summer and enjoy a different climate and atmosphere on site.

Liked: Location.
Level pitch.

Disliked: We used disabled facilities/shower.
Extremely dirty.
They need to take a look at the shower waste . Looks like a dead hedgehog stuck in it!
The floor completely flooded and the squeegee provided was a waste of time.
Also ladies loo. Light not working.
Rubbish everywhere....
Don't expect 5 star but do expect clean showers etc..
Wifi no good.
A real shame. As it is in a good location.

From the manager: Hello Colleen,

Thanks for leaving a review, sorry to see that you didn’t enjoy our site.
We do try and keep the facilities open and clean as best as possible, which is why we do advise that we are best suited to self contained motorhomes during the low season whilst we carry out maintenance.

Worth noting that some of your comments do not actually apply to the campsite, as it appears you used the football club changing room which was not open to you ie the light and rubbish bins, this info was in your confirmation email.

Sorry to hear that the WiFi wasn’t up to your needs, we do provide it for free as phone signal is not great on site and we don’t make any promises regarding speed. We did try to accommodate you by moving you to a pitch with better WiFi signal.

Maybe give us a try again in the summer when you can benefit from a much more vibrant campsite .

Kind regards

From the manager: Hi Steven,

I think it is worth pointing out that a lot of your issues with our site were caused by yourself. We state on Pitchup that the max vehicle length is 7.0m. We state this for a reason. We also mention the access ramp, if you choose to skirt the truth on the booking form and say that your vehicle is 7.0m when in fact it was over 8m then you are going to run into the issues that you described.

Obviously our site wasn’t for you.

Kind regards
Mousehole Camping

Please note that the access road from Newlyn is narrow. To access the site, you will need to go over a small ramp, so this site is not recommended for motorhomes over seven metres. When arriving from Penzance, do not use the road via Mousehole village, as it is narrow and unsuitable for larger vehicles. Instead, take the B3315 (Chywoone Hill) from Newlyn, which is signposted Paul and Land’s End.

Local attractions

Fans of BBC costume drama Poldark will find plenty to keep them occupied around here, with many names and places to recognise: Godolphin House, the mines at Botallack and Levant, and Porthcurno beach (Nampara Cove) are all within half an hour of Mousehole Camping and all worth a visit. Of course, if your passions lie less in TV drama and more in the arts, you won’t be let down – catching a show at the Minack Theatre, an open-air theatre carved into the cliffs above Porthcurno, is an absolute must. You can’t very well make a trip to this part of Cornwall and not visit the most westerly point of mainland England… Land’s End is a 25-minute drive from Mousehole Camping. Be sure to get a photo with the famed sign, and stop for a Cornish cream tea before you leave. Anyone drawn to the ocean will have plenty to do too: the top-notch surfing beach at Sennen is 20 minutes away, boat trips out to the Scilly Isles leave Penzance regularly, and the stunning St Michael’s Mount is a short walk along a causeway or an even shorter boat journey from the coast.
