  • Pop-up family campsite on a working farm in quiet Cheshire countryside
  • Near the Cheshire and Shropshire border; Malpas five minutes' drive
  • Play area and picnic tables; meet the friendly on-site animals
Cheshire sites don’t come much more family-friendly than Magical Malpas PYO Farm, a back-to-basics spot on a friendly, family-run working dairy and pick-your-own farm. This simple pop-up site has a small number of pitches on neatly mown fields, and is a five-minute drive from pubs and convenience stores in the historic market town of Malpas. Simple on-site facilities include four toilets (one with a baby changing station) and wash basins with cold running water. Picnic tables and a children's play area add spaces for you to unwind. Just take note that there are no shower facilities, wifi, electric hook-ups or drinking water; you will need to bring your own drinking water. One extra perk at this site is the animals that are on duty. You're welcome to meet Wilma and Betty, two Valais Blacknose sheep, and the goats Lily, Houdini, Luna and Kenny (the naughty one), as well as the site's two resident donkeys, Trevor and Lola. They're generally well-behaved, so interactions are welcome. If you can get your kids away from the animals, they will be chomping at the bit to get to BeWILDerwood Cheshire (10 minutes’ drive) and Chester Zoo (40 minutes).

Great family campsite, chill vibes, super clean facilities and boss hosts. Spacious sites, awesome play areas, and fun farm animals. No showers/drinkin' water, but no worries for short trips. Tops for little tackers.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Nice open site with lovely views, good little play area for the kids. Being a working farm they have some of the animals roaming and also around for the kids to see which was a big hit.
Owner was lovely and very friendly. Also let people know there place in a good way and made sure rules if the camp were followed by all.

There is a playbarn for the kids to play on [£6.50 child & £1 adult]
Firepits & wood can be hired [£7 each a night]

Disliked The site doesnt look like the photos advertised on the site. Finding a pitch was abit of a free for all and just where there was space. Pitches werent level as such so it was hit & miss.
There also only one washing up sink which can prove troublesome when you have 10+ tents.

We found the firepit & wood hire expensive. We thought once hired we had it for our stay only to be told we would have to hire again for another night...we've been to many campsites where once paid its yours for the stay you're there.

Playbarn is good idea for the kids but possibly a discount for those staying on site could be an idea as could be expenaive for others with mutliple children.

We did struggle to sleep both nights due to a nearby venue having functions on...the music was that loud and woke mutliple people - this went on till about 12.30/1am both nights which wasn't ideal. This could be mentioned if it was going to be a regular thing going forward as we just didnt sleep properly which was a shame.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Easy to find got to choose where to pitch up with was great free range goats the kids loved and a park for them to keep entertained we chose this as it looked like a small camp site which was perfect for my autistic son especially because they had gates that had to be closed due animals so he couldn’t get out lol lovely quiet site and the owner was lovely to talk to and made sure we was okay and the price was fair

Disliked One of the goats headbutted my toddler unfortunately and she has a nasty black eye

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked We had a wonderful stay at this campsite. The location is peaceful and well-kept, perfect for a relaxing break. What really made the experience stand out were the owners. They were extremely friendly and welcoming. We spoke with them on a few occasions during our stay, and each time, they asked if we needed anything or if there was anything they could do to make us more comfortable.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Such a lovely campsite for families with young kids. The girls (age 4 and 5) absolutely loved the playground and seeing all the animals on site.

We enjoyed renting the fire pit and roasting our marshmallows in the evenings.

Staff were fantastic with the kids. Also easily contactable or nearby in very easy to spot purple Malpas t-shirts.

In addition to the campsite, on the Sunday the role play cafe on site was open and the girls absolutely loved this and didn’t want to go home.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked We have children 5 & 2. We really enjoyed this site, it’s a small site with a playground right next to the pitches, so kids can play within your eye line. There’s rabbits, donkeys, goats & sheep. The goats spent some time roaming round the site which was fun.
The atmosphere was perfect, there was about 15 pitches tops, all families with kids similar ages, all respectful which always helps.
Toilets clean, tuck shop with ice creams.
The staff couldn’t have done more, especially Nancy. All very welcoming.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Absolutely fantastic little place especially for young children. We stayed with our 3 year old triplets and had the best time. Play area, the animals and the play barn was exceptional and we will definitely be back! Staff are all very friendly and relaxed. Aldi, McD, pubs and parks close by.

Disliked Maybe a communal freezer so people can re freeze ice packs and a communal microwave.
