  • Family- and dog-friendly site in Kirkby Malzeard, six miles from Ripon
  • Harrogate and Yorkshire Dales National Park within a half-hour drive
  • Mobile hot tub (for an additional fee) and guest kitchen; café on site
If your idea of a top-notch rural break is one that’s packed with scenic strolls and/or bike rides, you should be in good hands at Ivy Bank Campsite. This spacious, family- and dog-friendly site is on the edge of the village of Kirkby Malzeard and surrounded by the Nidderdale National Landscape, with the Yorkshire Dales National Park not far beyond. There are heaps of places to get out for a day of hiking or cycling: Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey and Newby Hall are all within a half-hour drive, and the site owners are happy to pass on tips for local jaunts too. Take urban wanders around Ripon (15 minutes’ drive away) and Harrogate (25 minutes), or trade all the rural peace for thrills at Lightwater Valley Theme Park, 15 minutes away, too. There’s plenty of space for post-activity chilling out on site, with the on-site café dishing out fresh coffee and croissants, hot and cold sandwiches and sweet treats like cakes, brownies and scones (you're also welcome to stay parked after your check-out to use the café). Unwind at the mobile hot tub (extra fee applies) too, or head to the play area that's a two-minute walk away from the site. If you'd like to cook for yourself, there's a small kitchen area housed in a converted horsebox with a sink, toaster, kettle and microwave, as well as a book exchange and plugs to charge devices. Other handy bits and bobs around the place include a shower block and recycling facilities. Firepits are available to rent for warming up of an evening; if you’d prefer to cosy up in the pub, it’s a mere five-minute amble to the local tavern for a pint or plate of grub. Also in the village are a chip shop and a butcher to supply the bits for your barbecue.

What customers say

This is a highly-rated, friendly campsite with spacious pitches and excellent, clean facilities including heated shower blocks and a well-regarded on-site cafe. Its rural location offers beautiful views and convenient access to local villages and attractions. While most guests had a positive experience, some noted occasional issues with facility capacity during peak times and occasional off-site noise.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked approachable understanding and helpful staff, spotless shower block even with the site being fully booked.

little details like the basic guest kitchen area which has everything you need ( this is a campsite remember not a holiday park ) the site felt relaxed, laid back but also safe.

noise levels stopped on a the dot at 10pm.

DISREGARD OTHER REVIEWS from Karens about location, lack of facilities or not wifi to your pitch its a field with a fantastic shower block and cafe !

Ivy bank is a fabulous place to stay, explore, relax and re charge.

Disliked people leaving bad reviews for such a cool site , who clearly don't get camping or are better suited to going to centre parks where there's a waffle stand, Irish paddy's bar and a mini supermarket for your oat milk skinny low fat latte whist wearing your dry robe

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely campsite. Plenty of space on the electric camping pitch.

Sam couldn't have been more accommodating.

15 minute drive from Lightwater Valley, which was perfect for us as we had been there for the day before checking in.

Great amenities.

Would definitely recommend Ivy Bank for families (we had a 9 year old with us). *The play park is a little walk and part of the near by housing estate. Although we walked down the footpath from the campsite, I wouldn't recommend, especially if its getting darker or you have very young childre (drive or follow the road around instead). There was a play field and Multi Use area there too. Not sure if these areas were locked.

Decent selection in the lovely little village shop. Local pub was cosy and the food was delicious. MUST BOOK (they took pity on us) Fish and chip shop was shut.

Alrhough the cafe wasn't open at tea time / early evening, a member of staff was available to serve drinks, snacks and other camping essentials which was great.

Big thank you for making our 1 night stay as comfortable as possible. Would recommend and come back in the future.

Will definitely return next year and make more family memories.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The cleanliness of the whole site, washblock and cafe. Every member of staff we spoke to could not have been friendlier. Everyone was quiet by 10/11pm apart from hushed conversations, no loud music or “parties”

Disliked Nothing

Electric grass pitch

Liked Enjoyed our 2 night stay at ivy bank. Our 7yr old made some friends immediately and loved playing football with the other children. The cafe was not fully open on the mon/tue we was there but was advised was open until 6pm for snacks/ drinks etc.
The facilities are great and kept clean. Microwave, kettle, fridge and freezer. 4 decent sized sinks for cleaning up with dish soap there for you. Showers and toilets are a decent size and kept clean.
Tent pitches are pretty flat with plenty of room. The hot tubs seem popular but not something we was particularly interested in using.
We had a trip to Forbidden Corner on the 2nd day which is a great day out approx 30 min drive away.
Wi-Fi in the facilities area but doesn’t reach tent area.

Disliked Not much in the area within walking distance. Walked into the village approx 10 mins away to find an old and not very good children’s play park. Decided to pop for a drink in the Queens Head pub and see if it would be any good for a meal. No. My glass was dirty with some sort of residue on it so decided may not be the best place to eat!

From the manager: Thanks for the amazing feedback :)

The local pub is the queens but there’s about 4 other pubs locally, we have WiFi in the guest kitchen area only if people need it but we hope people come here to get away from the world.

Location wise I’m afraid we can change but in our opinion the site is perfectly located to explore the charms of the lower dales

- masham
- nidderdale
- Ripon
- Thirsk / Northallerton
- Fountains abbey , brimham rocks, Hackfall woods, the Himalayan garden, Harrogate and the whole Yorkshire dales national park

Thanks for a great stay.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely site, it was safe and spacious for our children to be able run around, play and enjoy the outdoors meeting others. We stayed non-electric pitch lots of space with, the football goal, lovely views, hired the log burner for £5 for our entire stay and £8 bag of wood kept us cosy. The little kitchen with kettle, toaster and plugs to charge phones came in handy, and the scones in the onsite cafe, delicious.
Didn't hire hot tub this time but the option was there for them to bring it right next to your site.
Hot showers, large shower heads lovely.
Short walk to the local shop, pub, butchers, chippy, play park.
Location excellent to walks, local villages, and towns.

Local attractions

Popular picks for gentle ambles around here include the pretty Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park (10 minutes’ drive), the ancient ruins of Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Gardens (15 minutes) and the elegant gardens of Newby Hall (25 minutes), which also has a miniature railway in case of tired legs. Sustenance for such outings and for evenings in can be acquired over at Masham’s Black Sheep Brewery (15 minutes), at Pateley Bridge’s Oldest Sweet Shop In The World (20 minutes) or with a stop for a top-notch tea at Betty’s in Harrogate (25 minutes). Continue the laidback theme of your break with a bimble around Brimham Rocks or a round at the local golf course (both 15 minutes). Alternatively, take the opposite approach to holiday antics and get the adrenaline properly pumping on the rides at Lightwater Valley Theme Park (15 minutes) – there are more low-key rides for kids here too, so it's likely to be a winner all round.
