  • Well-maintained, landscaped adults-only park near Polstead in Suffolk
  • A 20-minute drive to Lavenham, and 25 minutes to Ipswich Waterfront
  • Essentials shop on site; food pub five minutes’ walk away
Its rural location on the edge of a Suffolk conservation area ensures visitors to Polstead Country Park have plenty to do during their stay. The pretty village of Polstead is five minutes’ drive away, and walkers have access to a network of footpaths from there, taking in ancient woodland scattered with bluebells in spring, while overnighting cyclists can pick on the South Suffolk Cycle Route with a 10-minute ride from the park. If you've brought the car, your options widen even further – animal parks, stately homes and beaches are all within half an hour’s drive. Landscaped with flowers, neat hedges and shady mature trees, the pitches at this adults-only site are generously sized and immaculately maintained. Spotless modern facilities include shower facilities with underfloor heating and a dedicated accessible bathroom, while washing-up sinks and a laundry area make it easy to keep everyone and everything looking shipshape. The friendly staff at reception can let you have all sorts of information on the local area and places to visit, and there’s also a small site shop stocked with essentials. If you fancy a break from cooking, there’s a foodie pub within five minutes’ walk and other options in Polstead village.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Pitch size and facilities really good

Disliked Too close to a main road, unfortunately we live in a quiet village and not used to being next to a busy A road, my fault should have researched the site on Google earth.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely adults only site. Our second time at this site. We would stay again, just not on that pitch!

Disliked The pitch - number 20. This pitch is directly alongside the path from the camping field and an adjacent caravanning and camper field. It is the route to the toilets and washing up area. It is also the route to the dog walk. It was like Piccadilly Circus! There was no privacy, if we sat in the caravan or ate in there, people walking along the path gawped in. It was like being in a goldfish bowl! Yes we could have asked to move but for a two night stay we decided to put up with it rather than pack everything up, and be off site for as long as possible. Unfortunately what was meant to be a much needed rest with peace and privacy didn't turn out that way. Site owners: some fencing or screening should be erected at the edge of that pitch to give future users some privacy.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked We liked the peace and quiet, a little privacy from the hedges around the pitches, and best of all each hedge had a multitude of different types, to serve all sorts of creatures, like mice, and many different birds. The wardens were kind and helpful, I’m sure we will go again sometime.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The whole site is very clean and well situated / secluded plots.
The toilets/showers excellent.
Good walks to the village nice pub.
Excellent food in the brewers arms and both pubs dog friendly.

Disliked This could do with a dog poo bin located at the reception end.
I would of liked to see some recycling bins with the general waste.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Staff were great. There was a mix up when we arrived where we were told to pitch and someone was already there. Staff sorted this within 30 minutes.

Disliked Unfortunately we disliked everything else. We had requested a secluded quiet pitch and were given a pitch next to a main A road, which was extremely noisy day and night. Meaning we got little to no sleep. We were in the part of the park where there was no shrubbery between pitches, basically in the middle of a field which meant there was no privacy between pitches. We did ask to move but were told all the pitches were full. My main annoyance is that this is advertised as a peaceful and remote location when it's anything but. Finally unless you were the only one showering the water pressure is terrible, you barely get a tiny trickle. Shame because I'm sure if you got one of the good pitches your experience would be perfect. Won't be back.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Liked everything: friendly welcome, site very clean and tidy, pitches are lovely and well kept. Toilets, showers and washing up facilities are great, clean and modern and love the music in the loos. Second time staying here and will be back again.

Disliked Nothing to dislike about the site. Walked to the Cock Inn using the map and directions provided by the site manager (this was a selling point to the friends who came with us for their first visit and were looking forward to the lovely food we had raved about at a typical Suffolk pub) but after a lovely 35 minute woodland walk we arrived at the pub, ordered our drinks and then were told they were not serving food. Our bad as we hadn’t called ahead and hadn’t packed food as we planned to eat out. Young women behind the bar was very apologetic. We managed to get an Uber back to the site and ordered a takeaway delivery. Didn’t spoil our experience at all but will remember to call the pub before we set off next time.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much Tina for taking time to leave a review and a great pic too. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay in spite of the food issue at the village pub.

Local attractions

Pretty Suffolk villages to explore include Kersey (five minutes’ drive) with its half-timbered houses and thatched cottages, while Lavenham (20 minutes) has a stunning guildhall and fine 14th-century church. For a bit of a date night, Ipswich (25 minutes) has lots of bars and restaurants along its lively waterfront, as well as a theatre and cinema. There are pretty country yomps along the River Stour to Flatford Mill (25 minutes) and Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes) in Constable Country. You can see another artist’s house on the walking trail from National Trust-owned Melford Hall (20 minutes) to Sudbury (15 minutes), which takes in three old water mills and Thomas Gainsborough’s house en route. Looking for animal encounters on your rural break? Feed lambs (in season), groom horses and cuddle up to friendly donkeys at Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, or get up close to the reptiles, creepy crawlies and butterflies at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park (both half an hour). Or how about touring a couple of local vineyards? Giffords Hall (half an hour) and Burnt House (45 minutes) are both open for tours and tastings – it’s best to book in advance.
