Perhaps the most fitting way to celebrate your arrival at La Laiterie is with some bubbles, as this peaceful touring site is set in Côte des Blancs, an area famed for its quality Chardonnay Champagnes, the ‘Blanc de Blancs’. Its location in the small country village of Villers-aux-Bois is also just a 20-minute drive from Épernay, a destination that is widely known as ‘the Champagne capital’. The fully serviced pitches belong to a French and English winegrowing couple, who are very happy to spill the beans on their favourite Champagnes and local spots to visit. The grounds are wooded and very peaceful; your main neighbours are just the chickens, ducks and geese. Owner Claire also adores cooking, so if you ask nicely upon arrival, she can prepare you a full English breakfast for an additional charge. If you’re wondering what to expect from your pitch, it should be helpful to know that they are fully serviced with electricity, running water and grey and black water drainage. The grounds at La Laiterie are landscaped and set in a 2,000-square-metre plot next to the couple’s house, a renovation of the old village dairy (hence the name of the site, which translates to 'the dairy'). In keeping with the Champagne theme, there are plenty of places to go for tastings or tours at Champagne houses in the surrounding area. The owners can also arrange visits and tastings to their very own cellars in Grauves, 10 minutes' drive away. Avize, also a 10-minute drive away from the site, is a well-equipped town with restaurants and a supermarket, making it easy for you to stock up on supplies or track down a nice dinner spot.

Aquest càmping encantador i ben cuidat ofereix una ubicació tranquil·la amb fàcil accés a la regió de Champagne. Els amfitrions Claire i Didier són molt elogiats per la seva càlida benvinguda i atenció. Les parcel·les són espaioses, però cal portar les pròpies instal·lacions sanitàries. Em va agradar Lovely peaceful location within easy reach of Épernay (18 mins drive through gorgeous vineyards). Claire made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. We ordered a bottle of champagne which promptly came out chilled in an ice bucket with glasses. Our only regret is we wish we’d asked Claire to join us for a glass! Oh and also that we could have stayed longer!! We did find it a bit tight to get from the driveway up onto the grass area due to the angle and the stone bollard, so we unhitched the caravan (6.3m incl hitch) and used the motor movers and it was fine. Getting off next day was no problem. All in all a lovely welcoming stay on this gem of a site. We’d love to come back and explore more of this scenic area … and have that glass of bubbly with Claire!! 😊

Em va agradar We had a lovely, peaceful stay at this charming little campsite hosted by Claire and Didier. The site was easy to find and ideally located for exploring Épernay and the surrounding Champagne region. It was very quiet during our visit, which made for a relaxing and restful stop.

Getting in and out of the pitch around a large stone required a bit of patience and careful manoeuvring, but nothing unmanageable.

Claire was a warm and welcoming host. We enjoyed a delicious home-cooked English breakfast, and champagne was available on request – both of which we happily paid for. It was a great way to start the day and to enjoy a taste of the local culture.

All in all, a friendly and well-placed campsite that we’d be glad to return to next time we’re in the area

Em va agradar Absolutely loved this site and we were sad to only stay 1 night. Beautiful village location and a short walk to a small church and to see a chateaux.
Claire was a fantastic host and she recommended some great local areas and arranged a champagne tasting for us.
Champagne available to purchase and it’s beautifully presented. Claire also made us a lovely breakfast in the morning - you just need to ask to see if it’s possible.
Large fully serviced pitch but you do need your own toilet / shower facilities.

Em va agradar What a great little find this was! The hosts are super friendly & welcoming, and the site is very well maintained with really cute touches. Loved the bike with the champagne in the basket and the garden furniture. Our children enjoyed looking at the chickens & ducks and riding their bikes around the field. We felt very safe as the site is gated and the hosts live in the house next door. Unfortunately we had a night of terrible weather so didn’t get to sit out as much as we would’ve liked, but that just means we will have to come back another time! Also very reasonably priced (you should definitely charge more!). Thank you for having us! Oh and the WiFi is excellent, which was crucial for my husband’s work calls!

Em va agradar We booked La Laiterie after having a disappointing experience elsewhere, and we’re so glad we did. Great flat pitches, with plenty of space. Lovely “extras” around the campsite with comfy seating, a sun lounger and nice decorative touches. Hosts were very friendly and attentive. We tried their delicious champagne and it was always delivered to us in ice bucket with champagne flutes for us to enjoy it (such nice service which was unexpected). We were also given some freshly picked cherry tomatoes to enjoy. All in all it was a 10/10 experience and if you’re lucky, you’ll meet Rudy the dog too. Hopefully we’ll be back!

Em va agradar We didn’t like it … we LOVED IT!

Claire and Didier have made a lovely, very individual site, and are the best hosts and loveliest couple you could meet. As soon as we arrived we were greeted with smiles and they couldn’t do enough for us.

I highly recommend you try the champagne, it’s delicious… as is the breakfast in the morning.

We will definitely be back, this really made the last few days of our holiday in France very special.

Llocs d'interès

Épernay (20 minutes’ drive) should be a worthy first destination for your trip. Many of its most well-known Champagne houses are dotted along Avenue de Champagne, but if you’d rather get some background history first, you should stop by the Château Perrier museum to learn a little bit more about the area’s Champagne-making history. On the other side of Épernay is the Montagne de Reims Regional Natural Park (from 15 minutes), where sloping vineyards and small villages mix together to create some spectacular scenery for walking or cycling trips. Just a little further on is Reims (50 minutes), a city with a stunning cathedral that has been used for royal coronations. Those who are adventuring with the kids may fancy tiring them out with some outdoor activities. Just outside of Montmort-Lucy, Cap-Aventures (10 minutes) runs activities like forest climbing, paintballing and mountain-biking. Surely that should do the job, but if not, a long walk around the gardens in Châlons-en-Champagne (35 minutes) should end the day nicely.
