Mountain views? Village views? Sandy beach – and a splendid setting deep in the spectacular surrounds of the Monts d'Ardèche Natural Regional Park? Oui, oui, oui and another fervent oui? Camping Le Pré Coulet is the place pour vous.
Set 600 metres from the Ardèche village of Saint-Pierreville, Le Pré Coulet is a small, scenic and peaceful place focusing on a quiet family-friendly vibe and green space aplenty rather than rowdy entertainment. It's close to the Veruègne river and its communal beach, with views of Saint-Pierreville and of the Ardèche mountains, and has hiking and cycling paths leaving directly from the grounds and the village. The rocks and rivers of the Eyrieux valley are 20 minutes' drive away and – a fervent oui if you're anywhere in the Ardèche – kayaking at the Pont-d'Arc is under an hour and a half to the south.
The site has a small playground and is next door to a bowling green. Shops, a butcher, a bakery and the local tourist office are all within simple strolling distance at Saint-Pierreville, along with local producers of honey, goats' cheese and jam, and three restaurants and two bars all serving local organic produce. A farmers' market runs every Sunday morning from May to October.

Get out by foot or by bike: hiking trails including Huguenot paths leave from the site and the village, and the Eyrieux valley and Dolce Via greenway trails are among some of the most scenic you'll see in this part of France. Experienced/strong-legged cyclists can tackle the routes of the Ardéchoise, ascending and descending the Ardèche's passes and mountains for as long as they can manage.
Other active adventures include clambering up the famed volcanic peak of Mont Gerbier de Jonc, or hiking around the cascades of the Ray-Pic waterfalls just outside the village of Péreyres (both within 45 minutes). Or have a heady time at the seven climbing courses of Aquarock Adventure (20 minutes), made up of bridges, ropes, nets and ziplines over and along the Eyrieux river.
Local village Saint-Pierreville is home to a wool museum and shop, where the curious can take a Secrets of Wool tour to find out about the local trade and take part in workshops to try out feltwork and weaving.
