Well, what a well-placed park this is. Camping Paradis Family des Issoux is among the peaks, valleys and outdoor adventures of the spectacular Monts d'Ardèche Natural Regional Park, for weeks’ worth of hiking, canoeing and climbing. It also has direct access to a river beach and is an easy 50-minute drive from the mighty stone arch of Pont d'Arc.
There’s loads to do on this flat, shaded and family-friendly site: days on the beach, perhaps, or dips in the pool and submerges in the spa before a virtuous session at the fitness centre… Kids have inflatable games and a trampoline to bounce around at, along with miniature golf, summer entertainment and a kids’ club.
Indoors, there’s access to a games room with a pool table and table football, while those hankering after a bit of quiet time can check out the library and board games.
The site restaurant doesn’t skimp on options, with a la carte meals, tapas and ice creams on the menu. A wine bar and tearoom, plus regular theme nights (including mussels evenings, Ardèche buffets, crepe nights and barbecues) are sorted on site so you can be pleasantly full all hols long…
Set in the Ardèche department a few minutes’ amble from the little commune of Lalevade-d'Ardèche, Camping Paradis Family des Issoux is also in stellar setting for town and spa days, with Vogüé 25 minutes’ drive south and the thermal baths – and casino – of Vals-les-Bains 10 minutes to the north. Moving on from base, Nîmes and Avignon are both a couple of hours away.

Jaujac, a riverside village known for its basalt flows and old stone houses, is 10 minutes’ drive from the site. Just outside it and reachable by another five minutes in the car is an adventure park where visitors can navigate from side to side above the tree canopy. If that sounds a little on the tame side, gather a group together and get your adrenaline pumping at a paintballing tournament right next door.
Lussas animal park is 25 minutes away for afternoons in the company of cute critters ranging from goats and geese to parrots and pigs, while the clifftop medieval village of Balazuc, with vistas over the Ardèche river, is just over half an hour away. Swims and kayaking can be had from here or at Pont d'Arc, 50 minutes away under the famed arch.
If you’d rather canter around the countryside instead, the pretty commune of Berrias-et-Casteljau and horse riding in the Païolive forest are a 55-minute drive away.
