Set in green, green countryside on the borders of the Charente and Charente-Maritime, Camping Chez Philipaud is a peaceful campsite surrounded by grape vines, walnut groves and sunflower fields. It’s near a rural hamlet of the same name, and both family-run and family-friendly, so everything is all set up for parents and kids alike to have a relaxing holiday. Each spacious grass pitch has access to electricity, and all benefit from partial or full shade under mature trees. You may well want to spend leisurely days sunbathing and dipping into the pool. For food, you can pick up some bits in the on-site shop or visit the local towns of Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire or Baignes-Saint-Radegonde (both 10-15 minutes’ drive) for restocking in the major hypermarkets and lazy lunches in cosy bistros. Thanks to the proximity of the N10 autoroute (15 minutes), Camping Chez Philipaud is very easy to get to. You’re welcome to overnight on your way further south to Bordeaux and Spain, or hang around for a few days to discover the delights of the Charente.

喜欢: This may seem like a review from some French camping brochure but if you are looking for peace and tranquility amongst vinyards and sunflower fields then this place is definitely for you. The toilet block is the best weve seen throughout our trip to France with music, hot water for showers and washing, handsoap and yes toilet rolls and seats! The swimming pool is perfect and much needed on a hot day. Pitches are set in a large area with shrubs and trees for shade or sun.A great warm welcome if youre near Lamerac.

Sanitair was erg schoon.

We zijn een week gebleven.

喜欢: Camping familial très bien situé. Ambiance intimiste, discret et très très propre. Accueil parfait ! J'ai tout aimé et je choisirais à nouveau ce camping si je devais voyager à nouveau dans la région. La piscine est superbe pour se détendre après une journée à vélo.

不喜欢: Il faudrait vraiment être difficile pour ne pas apprécier le lieu. J'ai tout aimé même la nuit sous le noyer...

喜欢: A beautiful location with amazingly friendly hosts. The site was spacious enough for us to choose a place to camp and the facilities - toilets/showers/washing up area were all clean to a high standard. It was also great to have access to a shared fridge. The swimming pool was an added bonus. We stayed for 2 nights (on our way further south) but would stay longer next time. Thank you Sarah and Rich for a lovely, relaxing break.

喜欢: Such a fabulous little site. We received a warm welcome and felt at home immediately. The shower block is well set up, clean and well looked after. The pool was fabulous - a real bonus for such a small site. Surrounding area is beautiful too. We were just here for a one night stopover but could have stayed longer.

If you’d rather abandon the car for a couple of days, you’ve easy access to the surrounding countryside from the campsite, for family walks in the vineyards and woods nearby. To up the activity levels, head for the Piscine Les Antilles (20 minutes’ drive) to spend an afternoon zooming down waterslides, or strike out by bike along the gentle Galope Chopine trail to Chantillac (15 minutes), following an old railway. Old-world Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire (15 minutes) is dominated by its medieval chateau. The tourist office organises free walking tours of the town, and you can also pick up regional wines. Jonzac (20 minutes) is another lovely spot with a chateau, a pocket-sized beach by the Seugne river and spa facilities. For day trips out further afield, Cognac (35 minutes) offers the chance to sample local brandy, while Saintes (50 minutes) is known for Roman-era ruins and several stately churches. It’s about equidistant (an hour and 15 minutes) to both Bordeaux – for its elegant architecture and landmark La Cité du Vin – and Royan, with a sandy beach and calm waves for swimming.
