They’ve thought of everything at Casa La Pieve Camper Park, 10 minutes’ drive from historic Berat in southern Albania. This compact touring site offers up fully serviced gravel pitches with electric hook-ups and a fresh water supply for motorhomes, as well as all the facilities you need for a thoroughly comfortable stay. Modern shower facilities have hot and cold water, and are all impeccably clean and maintained to the highest standards of hygiene; there’s also a laundry with washing machines and dryers for free use by guests. You can pick up basic toiletries, essential groceries and camping supplies from the on-site convenience store, and bag the barbecue stations to cook up alfresco meals. Dine at the picnic tables, where you can also chill to a backdrop of scenic views, read a good book or have a snooze in the sun. If you’re travelling with dogs, there’s a dedicated exercise area with waste disposal bins – please always pick up after your pets. The site owners can advise you on local public-transport options, including bus schedules and nearby stops, so you can explore without taking your campervan/mobile home. They’re also happy to organise guided tours of gorgeous Berat, wine-tasting jaunts and kayaking adventures along the spectacular Osum River.

Explore the historic Mangalem and Gorica neighbourhoods overlooking the Osum River, where white Ottoman-era houses cling to steep hillsides. Next, head up to the ancient clifftop fortress for far-reaching views over the city, before dipping into the collection of gleaming icons at the Onufri National Museum. The rugged countryside surrounding Berat is just begging to be discovered on foot, or you can admire the natural beauty of the sheer Osum river canyons (15 minutes) by bike, kayak or guided rafting tour through the spectacular gorge. Learn more about life in rural Albania with visits to local vineyards Çobo (10 minutes) and Nurellari (25 minutes) for tours of the winemaking process and the chance to taste some of the region’s best vintages. Explore the pretty villages of Roshnik Qendër (35 minutes) and Bogovë (an hour), where you can sample local dishes like tavë kosi (baked lamb with yoghurt) and fërgesë (pepper and tomato stew) at traditional taverns.
