Heading to the Kent countryside in a quest for a rural retreat near to steam railways, castle ruins and vineyards? As well as assorted farm animals on site, there are eight acres of farmland at Setts Wood Camping and Glamping, including a fishing lake (charges apply) and a wooded area for classic games of hide and seek. Down a private lane and well away from the road, there is certainly plenty of unwinding to be done at this quiet site. Don't worry about being too far removed though, as it's still within reach of several historic towns including Hastings (a 45-minute drive away), and has several sandy beaches within half an hour’s drive. The local town of Tenterden is five minutes’ drive away for a convenient collection of breweries, restaurants and supermarkets where you can pick up supplies for a picnic or a barbecue back at the farm. You can also buy fresh free-range eggs on site every morning, in a splendid selection of different colours. Store any leftovers in the communal fridge and make use of the other kitchen facilities such as a kettle and sink. Other handy facilities include toilets and a shower block, for washing off any grains of sand accumulated from the beaches at Camber Sands and Dymchurch, both within half an hour’s drive.

喜欢 Spacious site with sheep and llamas grazing peacefully. Liked the no noise rule after 10p.m. as this was a busy summer weekend and there were lots of campers. Liked that could pitch camp wherever we wanted. Great location within easy reach of sandy beaches and places of interest.

不喜欢 Just one shower for a large group of campers seemed insufficient although in in fact we didn't need to queue for long. The toilet near our pitch was dirty.

喜欢 We had a great time at this campsite! The setting was beautiful — peaceful, with plenty of natural scenery and space to relax. One of the highlights was definitely the farm animals and star gazing at night.

The shared kitchen facilities were also a plus.

不喜欢 The only downside was the toilet facilities. Unfortunately, they weren’t restocked or cleaned as often as needed, especially during busy periods. There was also only one shower so the queue to use it was long It didn’t ruin the experience, but it was noticeable.

喜欢 Loved the open space and the fishing lake. Beautiful little camp site, with great facilities, and friendly dog who gives lots of attension and love.

不喜欢 the sheep waking me up at 4/5am but this cannot be helped.
One recommendation would be better quilts in the bell tent and softer matress.

不喜欢 Loud large family group who not only ran round chasing the sheep, being generally noisy they also drove to the toilets!

I loved the sheep but there was soo much poo it was hard to dodge.

Only 2 ladies toilets which I saw men coming out of.

Lake was a small pond

喜欢 A peaceful, safe and secure site. Toilets and shower are so clean. Owners are lovely too. Added bonus of sheep and Alpacas roaming around the tents. First time camping with our autistic boys. Definitely will be going back.

Find your end destination in Hastings (45 minutes), where you can visit the underground tunnels of smugglers' old haunts, roam the ruins of an 11th-century Norman castle or stay in the modern-day with a stroll along the amusement pier. Play like royalty in more turrets and ruins, including Bodiam Castle (25 minutes), Sissinghurst Castle (20 minutes) and Leeds Castle (35 minutes). Or perhaps turn towards the historic towns of Tenterden (five minutes) and Rye (20 minutes) or the landscaped gardens at the fanciful Hole Park (15 minutes) and Great Dixter House & Gardens (25 minutes). Smallhythe Place (10 minutes) is another enticing site, with a 16th-century cottage that was once the home of a famous actress. Red or white? Let your tastebuds decide at local vineyards including Chapel Down Tenterden Vineyard Park (15 minutes), Gusbourne Estate Vineyard (10 minutes) and Biddenden (15 minutes). If the animals on site have you craving more, Port Lympne Safari Park (half an hour) should fit the bill.
