Looking out over green fields grazed on by sheep, and with River Swale walks right from the grounds – how smashing is Hazel Brow Farm Campsite for a serene stay? With just a handful of pitches, this site in the Yorkshire Dales National Park is also peaceful; situated in the valley bottom below the village, it's surrounded by calm countryside and just across the river from the Swale Trail walking and cycling route (bikes can be hired less than 10 minutes' drive away). If you’re planning to give your hiking boots a good workout, set forth on the site’s private footpath running down to the River Swale or climb the nearby hills through lush fields for memorable views over Swaledale. You could also stroll to the village of Gunnerside, a couple of miles west, for its traditional pub and a café – both serving food – or roam to Reeth, four miles to the east, again following the river. Set in a kind of natural amphitheatre, this settlement is where Swaledale meets up with Arkengarthdale and is known for having (yet more) excellent views. Facilities back at Hazel Brow include a toilet block and a mains water supply. The access lane is quite steep and narrow and, although there is flat space when you reach the bottom, it’s not accessible enough for large, A-class motorhomes – please bear this in mind when booking.

喜欢: First time visiting this camp site but safe to say we’ll be back again! Very peaceful and surrounded by incredible views, the private footpath to the river is an added bonus. We had our two dogs with us so it’s great for venturing off on a walk. The weather wasn’t on our side (can’t be helped!) but it left us having the camp site to ourselves. Toilets are basic but are kept clean. The perfect place to switch off from the world, however there is free WiFi in the visitor centre if it’s needed. Highly recommend this campsite to anyone.

不喜欢: Nothing to dislike, if you’re wanting a showering facility then this isn’t the place for you. Didn’t bother us in the slightest.

喜欢: First visit this year , nice to come back and see Cath, Raymond and Martin. Nice to see young Jack helping out too. :) Perfect place to relax and chill out. Lovely riverside walk to Gunnerside where the local pub The Kings Head served up an amazing homemade chicken and leek pie. We will definitely be back to sample more off the menu . New managers very friendly.

喜欢: Wild camp feel, clean toilets ect. Use of a fire pit. Beautiful views. Really enjoyed this spot 👍

不喜欢: We stayed for 2 days, we brought equipment to be able to wash are selves but a shower would have been beautiful. The only thing that could be said is negative about the place.

喜欢: Lovely quiet tucked away site. Stunning scenery and nice simple ‘old style ‘ camping facilities. Also met another lovely young family stand on the field. Highly recommended if you want off grid and peaceful.

Yes, hard standing isn't much good for awnings, thanks for pointing this out, although the area is handy for the wifi and the loos! . 喜欢: What a lovely site. Setting is as picturesque as they come. We had a lovely, warm welcome from the owner. Toilets are basic but kept very clean. The kids loved the menagerie of animals as well finding all the little bugs and creatures hidden across the site. No light pollution and the only noises at night were from the wildlife and farm animals around - perfect mix.

不喜欢: No showers but this is stated when booking. Only thing missing but great if you can do without.

Please drive carefully down the single track lane signposted 'Hazel Brow Farm' (If approaching from the east continue 600m to turn into the sharp bend). Follow the 'Pitchup' signs, keeping to your left at the fork by cottages near the bottom. Continue on the cement tracks and through the gate by barn. Field pitches are ahead and to your right. Farm pitches are accessed further on, or are on the gravel area on your left.

Roam around Richmond (35 minutes’ drive away) to investigate the ruins of Easby Abbey, along with a Norman-era castle and the Green Howards Regimental Museum – or splurge on locally-produced snacks at the cobbled market square for snacks while walking through nearby woodland. If that whets your appetite for more artisan treats, aim for the Wensleydale Creamery (35 minutes), where you can learn about the history of Yorkshire cheese and, more importantly, pick up masses of the stuff to gorge on. When you’re full to the brim with dairy products, another wander’s in order to work it all off – amble to a waterfall such as Aysgarth Falls (half an hour), then move over to the Aysgarth Edwardian Rock Garden close by for – you guessed it – a little look at an Edwardian rock garden. If inclement weather is making outdoor expeditions too tricky, find shelter in the 14th-century ramparts of Bolton Castle (25 minutes).
