It’ll take about an hour, which should be plenty of time to fill the kids in on all things Civil War. And King John died at Newark Castle in 1216, so you can fill them in on all things Magna Carta too. Huzzah!
Also in the area (because by now you might have mutinous offspring), the waterpark, rides and play zones of Wheelgate Theme Park, open all year round, should mollify reluctant historians. The regular markets and acclaimed antique fair at Newark Showground and the stalls around the old marketplace should satisfy shoppers: surely the kids should be well into that too?
