Grab the dog (if you've got one – no need to acquire one specially) and head to Cresslands Touring Park in South Lincolnshire for woodland walks and lazy days near the River Glen. A good base for exploring the surroundings and enjoying a bit of outdoor time, the park is five minutes from a peaceful woodland, for long walks and spotting wildlife (including the kingfishers which live along this stretch of the glen). Guests can also head to the nearby river for walks, or take bikes out onto quiet countryside lanes. Not got a mutt? The site's also welcoming to cats, rabbits… even kids. Whoever's in your party, head to the opposite riverbank for a popular walking spot leading to the nature reserve along the Macmillan Way, a long-distance footpath linking Boston in Lincolnshire to Abbotsbury in Dorset. After all that fresh air you won’t have to venture far for a drink and a bite to eat – Waterside Garden Centre is 500 metres away with a restaurant, and there are a few pubs around a mile away if you fancy some pub grub. Cresslands is four miles south of Bourne, which has a greater selection of eateries, and the historic town of Stamford, with its attractions such as the famed Burghley House and Park and open-air theatre, is about a 25-minute drive. Bathroom facilities on site include two showers, two toilets and two wash basins with instant hot water and nifty extras including shaver ports and hand dryers. Two washing-up sinks and a washing machine are also available.

喜欢: Very well looked after site. Lovely walks along the river. David was so nice and even helped us as we didn't have enough pegs for our awning. Lots of wildlife and we liked the parts of none cut grass for wildlife and the zen logs

不喜欢: 1st shower didnt work that well on one day. Noise from the A52 but soon zoned out from the traffic.

喜欢: Lovely setting. Welcoming owner. Peaceful site with plenty of nature to be seen.

不喜欢: No real dislikes other than some road noise which we got used to and that was beyond the owners control.

喜欢: Lovely little site, very homely, Dave the manager/owner is super nice and I love the ethics of the site. Facilities are squeaky clean, nice showers. Only there one night as a stopover but I would definitely stay again.

不喜欢: Traffic noise but it's not too obtrusive.

喜欢: Small, with a very natural feel and look. Well screened pitches which were fully serviced. Facilities block had everything and was spacious and very clean. David met us on arrival and was friendly and helpful.

喜欢: Very clean site, plenty of space. Very welcoming owner and good facilities. A nice pub within walking distance and a couple of nice dog walks close by. Great weekend stop - or a stopover for a longer journey. From the hubbies point of view he said nice flat pitch lol.

不喜欢: Nothing. I read some comments about the road noise but it really was only at rush hour. I don’t live close to a road so should notice it more than most but I really didn’t.

Go wandering in Bourne Woods, a peaceful and ancient woodland around five minutes away by car, or give your legs a real workout by linking up with the Macmillan Way for 290 miles of footpath crossing the Lincolnshire Fens. Visit Burghley House and Park, a 16th-century country house near Stamford (25 minutes by car), built for Elizabeth I's lucky Lord High Treasurer Lord Burghley. Sights to see include the Great Hall with hammer beam roof, collections of 17th-century Italian paintings, the gorgeous Heaven Room painted by Verrio, and the gardens packed with sculptures, flowers and plants. While in Stamford, pay visits to All Saints Church and the Stamford Arts Centre, home to art galleries and the tourist info centre. You might also stroll around the Stamford meadows for birdwatching or a picnic on the banks of the Welland. Another option in town is All Saints Brewery, for guided tours of the microbrewery and tastings of its specialised fruit beers. For folk seeking a slice of city life, Peterborough is a 25-minute drive away.
