Have a look at this for a conveniently located place to stay in the Dorset countryside – Huntick Retreat is only a little way off the A35, the main road running across the county, and it’s a mere mile from the shops and pubs of Lytchett Matravers. Not that it’s all about the location, handy though it is… this is a site that’s surrounded by lovely views and offers a warm welcome and helpful service to all its guests. It’s an adults-only (16+) setup here, but dogs are welcome and provided with a designated exercise area for a proper stretch of the paws. There are plenty of dog-friendly pubs and attractions nearby too, so they’ll be able to join you on your outings – just ask on site for tips. Dogs will need to be kept on a lead at all times on site, however, because it’s not just human guests that like to pitch up here – the park is also popular with passing wildlife like deer – including a resident stag – badgers, buzzards and hedgehogs, so the owners are keen to make sure they’re not disturbed. Facilities at Huntick Retreat have been well thought out to make life easy for guests – you’ll have access to a launderette and drying room, a washing-up area, a wifi connection, chemical disposal and bathrooms with toilets and showers. Poole (15 minutes’ drive) is your nearest large town for anything you can’t get in Lytchett Matravers.

Gostou: Staff were super friendly and we were guaranteed and allocated a pitch. Travelled as a party of 6, 3 couples and we were put together thank you so much. Toilets were very clean and tidy. We had a really amazing stay thank you very much.

Gostou: Quietness of campsite. Good mobile signal. Showerblock was very clean with plenty of hot water. No timed showers.

Não gostou: There is no pathway to walk from there to the villages. Have to walk on quite a busy road. Nearest village was about 1.2 miles away which we did walk to & went to The Chequers Inn which we enjoyed very much. Wouldn’t do it in the dark though. Not the campsites fault. All the land around seemed private.

Gostou: The location is fantastic as only a short drive to Poole or Bournemouth. Staff seemed friendly and helpful. The sound of the birds in the woods were great. The potential to be a great site.

Não gostou: Even though I read reviews, and the campsite right up. There wasn’t anywhere I noticed that groups could book, we were unfortunate enough to be backed on to what seemed like a group of 10-12 people who also had guests arriving throughout the weekend. We expected a peaceful time, as advertised, but were constantly having to listen to this group. I didn’t report or complain to site staff at the time (as they were staying in the same area so would be well aware of the noise late into the night and starting early each morning). If I had known groups could book then I would have possibly looked elsewhere. Also advertised as having great views, from what we could see, only 3 spots had any sort of view across the hills.

In answer to your comment regarding group bookings; we do not allow group bookings, however, if parties book in different names it is difficult to monitor when booked. We are sorry that you did not have the peaceful experience that you expected, and I am sure if the members of the group knew that they were spoiling your stay they would have been more considerate.

I loved the added touch of spare toiletries in the toilet/shower block, someone always forgets something

Gostou: Peaceful and beautiful views. Immaculate toilet and shower block and really friendly staff.

Não gostou: There was a very toxic smelling smoky fire in the caravan storage area on the first morning we were there. It made me feel sick as the smell was chemically.
Tree surgeons appeared that same morning quite early and we hadn’t been informed that they’d be working in the area next to us.

Gostou: This has to be one of the best campsites we have stayed at. So so peaceful, all you could hear was birds singing. The toilets and showers were immaculate. A very warm welcome when we arrived. Our pitch was brilliant that was not overlooked. Would 100% recommend and stay here again.

Gostou: Very rural lots of nature owls hooting and screeching at night what a delightful sound. Staff very helpful.

Não gostou: People not following site etiquette. Noisy dogs. Fire pits everywhere smoke everywhere. Toilets need updating. Site needs a good tidy up. The gravel roads were incredibly dusty so car and van ended up covered in dust. Pitches are also quite close. Quite expensive for what it is.

Gostou: Such a peaceful caravan & campsite.
Friendly welcome and site was kept tidy.. large pitches with plenty of space. Constant beautiful birdsong during the day and an assortment of owls keeping us company during the night.
Definitely a great place to stay if you just want to unwind, kick back and enjoy your surroundings.

Atrações locais

Dorset is, of course, well known for its gorgeous landscapes – and it should be pretty easy to check out some of the top spots from here. Both the atmospheric ruins of Corfe Castle and the sparkling waters of the Blue Pool are about 20 minutes’ drive away; alternatively you could set off to the Jurassic Coast for a day at Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door (half an hour), or head for the miles of sandy beach at Studland Peninsula (half an hour). If you fancy a bit of activity among this scenery, perhaps play a round at Bulbury Woods Golf Club (five minutes) or have a go at the madcap floating assault course at Dorset Adventure Park (20 minutes). For more leisurely strolls, board a boat at Poole Quay (15 minutes) for a wildlife trail around Brownsea Island, wander around the National Trust’s Kingston Lacy estate (15 minutes) or set off to see birds at Abbotsbury Swannery (45 minutes). Don’t write off Dorset’s favourite family attractions either – places like Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes), The Tank Museum (25 minutes) and the Swanage Railway (half an hour) have plenty to offer for grown-up days out.
