Dolau Afon Camping is a pretty and peaceful Ceredigion site in the foothills of the Cambrian mountains, about 15 minutes’ drive from Aberystwyth. It’s a small, friendly site on a family-run smallholding that dates back more than 200 years, stretching out over three acres of what was once the Trawsgoed Estate. This is a most serene spot, surrounded by forests and on the banks of the Ystwyth river – and as such it’s a top choice for outdoor activities with a scenic backdrop. Such outings might include walks or bike rides on the numerous footpaths, bridleways and forest paths nearby, or lengthier pedals along National Cycle Route 81, which passes very close to the site. Not that you have to exit the site to get stuck into the rural antics: the smallholding has a licence that gives guests access to fly fishing on a fab 15 miles of riverbank. If you prefer being on the water than by it, you’re welcome to take a little dip in the river from the site instead (particularly welcome after a hefty hike, no doubt). Such peaceful surrounds are maintained by keeping facilities low-key, so the husband-and-wife team here have focused their attentions on the essentials, setting up a smart toilet block with heating, hair dryer, shaving point and family space, and making sure guests have access to drinking water, chemical disposal, dog wash and other handy bits. Barbecues are permitted on site, and there’s a social area with picnic table and firepit that’s just the spot for evening drinks and snacks.

  • Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan. Denk aan de pitbullterriër en tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro.
  • Groepsreserveringen voor 3 of meer personen of onderkomens (bijvoorbeeld tenten, caravans, campers of accommodaties) zijn niet toegestaan via Pitchup.com.

  • Er mogen geen reserveringen worden gemaakt voor meer dan 14 aaneengesloten nachten.

  • Deze camping ontvangt alleen gezinnen (directe familieleden) en koppels; reserveringen van andere groepen worden niet aangenomen.
  • Minstens één lid van het gezelschap dient 21 of ouder te zijn.
  • Voor het gebruik van de elektrische aansluitingen is een kabel van minstens 25 meter nodig.
  • Onderkomens die zwaarder zijn dan 3000 , zijn niet toegestaan.
  • Minimumafstand van 6 meter tussen de staplaatsen.

Ik was blij met: Flat pitches, very clean toilet block and beautiful location, easy access the cycle trails

Ik was niet zo blij met: There were numerous signs telling you what not to do and that coupled with the fact that only one shower was available (six people on the site for the stay) left us somewhat disappointed

Van de manager: We are very pleased you thought our site beautiful and the facilities clean. We take a lot of pride in providing our campers with lovely facilities and grounds. And saddened that you will not come back again, that's a shame.
However. We are a little confused by the number of signs you say we have......?

We have a sign on the Grey Water waste/Dog wash point, asking our guests not to put toilet waste in this drain, and another one, requesting the same of the drinking water tap & soak away adjacent to the Chemical Disposal Point. There are a couple of signs asking campers to pick up their dogs mess, again, this has been needed.

Unfortunately, yes, it has been necessary to put signs in these locations, as in the past we have had to clean out the toilet waste from caravan and motorhome cassettes where campers have not understood where, and where not to empty - as you can imagine, cleaning out soakaway drains of human waste, is not a nice thing to have to do!

As for showers. There are two showers on site :-
The converted Horse Box with shower/toilet/hand basin, that sat next to the main shower/toilet building.
In the main building there is one large shower room with WC and hand basin with a hairdryer.
Then a single toilet and hand basin in the room next to it.
Plus additional urinals for the men.

The facilities are in line with the CCC guide lines for a 1 acre site with 20 pitches. It is not unusual for people to wait their turn for a shower to become available, we are very sorry if our facilities inconvenienced your stay with us, I am sad about that.

We hope you will reconsider your decision not to recommend us or visit again, as we would happily welcome you back.

Ik was blij met: Very well kept site and facilities were spotless and well-equipped. Lovely setting with the river running right past the site, and access to the riverbank for swimming. Lots of walks right from the doorstep.

Ik was blij met: Really lovely small quiet site, nice pitches, very clean facilities and great location.

Ik was niet zo blij met: The only thing that I disliked was the one shower room in the hut to the right the light sensor wasn’t great and kept turning off after a few seconds if you weren’t moving much so made even brushing teeth at night difficult

We are so sorry about the lighting in the trailer shower, the light was only fitted last week, and we didn't realise that it was going off an on so frequently. It has now been adjusted and is staying on much longer now, giving more time to complete ablutions in the light. It was a quick and easy adjustment, and we wish you had told us it was doing this and you wouldn't have been inconvenienced, really sorry. We hope to see you again.
