Gill Head Farm

A aimé : The facilities were spotless. Very clean and always topped up with hand wash and toilet roll. Loved the aspect of a community room with kettles, toaster, microwave, fridge/freezer.
Our teenagers loved the addition of the peacock and the hens to which they named them their own names for our stay. We would definitely return and recommend.

N'a pas aimé: Shop was open limited time, in our opinion. The hiring of a fire pit and purchase of wood for the duration of stay…. We would have only wanted one fire in the whole stay. The field next to where we pitched was very uneven and we would have pitched there if flatter.

A aimé : Overall a very lovely campsite, small but not compact. There is at least 4 fields for camping and there were a selection of pitches available including completely next to a small stream. The bathroom blocks were all clean, tidy, well maintained, incredibly pleasant, close to each area and in large quantities. The lady who greeted me was very nice and laid back, there was a small shop with the basics needed on a daily basis. There is also a good children's playpark next to the washing up area, the communal area (with a large fridge, freezer, sofa's, tables, books and WiFi), and the discreet waste disposal areas. The views are spectacular with mountains surrounding the pitches and then a sky full of stars at nighttime.

N'a pas aimé: Pitchup advertise this as having parking next to the camping pitches. If you camp next to the river, there isn't parking next to your tent (there's a slop down to the stream/river). If you camp in the fields you can park near to the tents, the cars need to be on a hard standing car park area but the camping fields are around the car parking area so you could pitch up next to the car but this isn't guaranteed.

A aimé : Location, lovely setting and surroundings. Easy accessible. Nice little play area and indoor common room.

N'a pas aimé: The toilets were (and remained) dirty for our entire stay. It was difficult to get running hot water in the toilets/bathrooms. With the campsite being so close to the main road you can see and hear the traffic.

A aimé : We loved the amenities available on site and found the showers to be a great temperature and very clean. I super friendly welcome and the entire site was so clean. Despite the heavy winds and rain this didn’t dampen our experience. The communal area was a god send and was so helpful when making breakfast and hot water bottles to keep us warmer in the tent.

N'a pas aimé: We would have preferred to park next to our tent pitch like we’ve been allowed to on other campsites. But this was a very minor issue and we managed to get way up and had everything we needed in our tent.

A aimé : Lovely and quiet Very clean facilities (apart from river) saw one person at reception when we arrived who was nice.

N'a pas aimé: We were by the riverside with a non electric pitch. The river had rubbish in it and didn’t look pretty at all. You have to leave your car up a hill which when you are camping with lots of stuff becomes a chore to walk up and down. Cannot get any WiFi at all there so if you needed to make a call or people are trying to call you you then have to walk 5/10 mins to reception to make it. Not a problem if you don’t want to speak to people.

A aimé : Lovely site about 15 minutes from Ullswater and was the perfect base for us. Hills all around and really well kept. Lovely scenery.
Pitch was large.
Showers were clean and hot.
Excellent for what we needed.

A aimé : The owner was very friendly the site was peaceful and plenty of lovely scenery nice little kitchen with kettle/toaster and microwave and comfy sofas and TV to watch lovely walks near by too with our little dog

A aimé : Beautiful farm location, peacocks, communal lounge for WiFi which was warm and comfortable with kettles, toasters, tables, sofas and chairs

N'a pas aimé: WiFi not reaching the van which can be a bit annoying for older children in the evenings when they just want to relax

A aimé : lovely views, super friendly and helpful staff at check in. It has a relaxed atmosphere, our dog was welcome and we were able to light our stove and have a cosy evening enjoying an early spring camping trip. The facilities are clean and the water hot which is great after a day on the hills, and the pub is about 10 minutes walk away. We will revisit this campsite x
