The good folk at RCN Vakantiepark De Roggeberg have a challenge for you (and particularly your nippers). The challenge is thus: to run out of things to do. Pass by this site just outside Appelscha for a couple of days or settle in for the long run – either way, they’re pretty confident you’ll be kept happily entertained for the duration. A bold claim, one might imagine, but let’s have a quick run through the evidence. On site there’s a tennis court, table tennis, miniature golf and beach volleyball court; a multisports field can be used for all manner of team games, while one-on-one rivalries can be played out on the pétanque court. Younger guests will unearth all sorts of play equipment in various locations around the site, with the crowning glory being a huge adventure playground with climbing tower, treetop trail and a zipline. Safely returned to ground level, they can take part in laser games in the woods, head to the covered play area, meet mascots Alex and Sammy or cool off at the water play area. More extensive bouts of splashing and swimming can be had at the open-air pool next door (free entry for site guests). A mini market and croissanterie are on site to provide eats to take away, or you can nip into nearby Appelscha to reach a supermarket in around 10 minutes. Should all the daytime activity have left you bereft of the will to cater, you can leave it to the pros over at the brasserie or the snack bar.

A top-notch campsite, loved for its service and friendly team. Beautiful, spotless grounds with loads of facilities for all, and super clean showers. Plenty for kids to do, with spacious, well-planned pitches. No major complaints, campers would gladly come back.

Liked Wow! Best week here ever. We came as first timers to Holland (from the UK) and found this site on pitch up. Reception staff were so helpful and kind at all times - a real asset to the company. The site is brilliant for children; we have a 2 year old and a 9 year old and there was plenty for each age group to do! Everything was easily booked, no faff of pre-booking months in advance like some UK sites. We enjoyed paint balling, water festivals, glow in the dark discos and regular train rides. More activities included crafts and a very large go-ape style climbing frame. The bike hire was easy and reasonably priced, with plenty of bike tracks near by, through the national forest, and a great little bike track is in the centre for them to enjoy whilst you enjoy an evening drink & snack. The pizzas were totally delicious and the morning bakery selection will stay engrained in our memories forever - yum! Loads of on-site activities (most included in price) and a great splash pad and massive pool a short walk through the trees. The pool really was breathtaking - a great little find. The facilities themselves (toilets and showers etc) were always clean and modern. They had family change rooms and plenty of facilities dotted around the campsite which meant each block never felt too busy. The pitch itself was gorgeous - very clean, little play park in the middle of each camp field and a great, wholesome feel. Short walking distance to main park/ facilities meant that our 9 year old could have some more independence that he so regularly craves! Honestly, we will be back next year. We had the BEST holiday ever and can’t believe it wasn’t more popular with UK residents.

Liked Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit dem Park, für Kinder wirklich schön. Wir hatten nicht das ideale Wetter aber schwimmen war dank der Kooperation mit dem Hallenbad des Ortes trotzdem wirklich. Ist im Übrigen nur zu empfehlen, besonders abends.
Alle Mitarbeiter waren wirklich sehr freundlich.

Disliked Wir hatten zwar nur den Basis Platz allerdings wäre es schöner gewesen wenn auf dem Platz doch noch eine Toilette gewesen wäre. Das ist aber wirklich meckern auf höchstem Niveau. Man muss keine Kilometer laufen um zur nächsten Toilette zu kommen.

Local attractions

Get out and about straight from the site into the Drents-Friese Wold National Park, where you can walk or cycle through 6000 hectares of heath and forest. For a change of scenery, more walks and cycle routes are over at the Fochteloërveen nature reserve, 15 minutes away by car. Here you may well spot some of the cranes that call the area home, and you can climb the 34-metre Bosberg tower to survey the area from above. Other fun ways to get out into the open are to take a canoe trip from Ravenswoud, kick up some mud on a quad bike tour from Oosterwolde, or ride an e-chopper bike out to het Aekingerzand sand drift (all around 10 minutes away by car). A good day out for family fun is Drouwenerzand theme park, 40 minutes’ drive from the site. Closer to home (10 minutes by car) is the Duinen Zathe amusement park, where kids can drive special little cars on a small racing circuit, bounce on trampolines and have fun on the various rides.
