A round trip along the Ardèche valley straight from your scenic site – and by canoe? If you think this sounds like an utterly fab way to spend some French holiday time (and if not, why not?), paddle your adventurous self along to Camping La Rouvière les Pins. Within easy reach of outdoor activities of all flavours and yet more canoeing (an absolute must) at the world-famed Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, Camping La Rouvière les Pins is a family-friendly place close to prehistoric sites and caves as well as medieval villages and historical monuments. And if you find the thought – or the action – of an Ardèche canoe trip a tad taxing? Massages are available to book on site. The site has a pool and paddling pool, and a good range of land-based leisure picks like a playground, a games room, ping pong tables, a football pitch and volleyball and basketball courts; fuel up for whatever activity you plump for with tipples and vittles from the shop, takeaway and bar. In the surroundings, your nearest stopoffs for supplies are Vagnas, two kilometres away, and the Monday market at Barjas, just under 10 minutes' drive from the site.

Liked: very pleasant owner, quiet but friendly site with large secluded pitches for camper van. the most pleasing aspect was all amenities were spotless and well kept. excellent facilities for disabled campers. all round good experience and value for money.

Liked: Bien situé à environ 10 minutes de Vallon Pont d'Arc Camping Calme... Les emplacements en tente ne sont pas les uns sur les autres, Les sanitaires sont très proches et une bonne recommandation et code promo pour le canoé ( l'arche de Noé )

Disliked: Dommage qu'il n'y ait pas d'animations , qu'il n'y ait pas plus de variétés au restaurant (pizzas, panini) La piscine était glaciale ( bien plus froide que la rivière )... 3 panneaux indiquant que ce camping a une piscine chauffé. Nous devions partir pour 12h ( la voiture était chargée), nous voulions simplement profiter du bord de la piscine avec ma fille de 7 ans ( 11h), il est venu à 11h20 nous voir pour nous demander si on comptait partir avant 12h.... On allait partir avant 12h; mais il y a des façons de fdire les choses... Ma fille m'a même dit, pourquoi il nous expulse !!

From the manager: Bonjour, Merci d'avoir séjourné chez nous. La piscine est effectivement chauffée a 26° mais en raison du vent très Ford et de la baisse des températures le ressentit n'est pas le même. La réception ferme a 12h c'est pourquoi je vous ai demander a 11h45 si vous deviez partir avant 12h tout simplement pour récupérer votre carte d'identité que vous avez laisser comme caution pour la location de votre cordon électrique, mais cela étant vous auriez pu continuer a bénéficier de la piscine. La prochaine fois prenez le temps de lire le règlement intérieur ou informez vous auprès de la direction. Pour ce qui est de l'animation la prochaine fois choisissez un cap fun. Cordialement

Liked: Clean facilities and pool area. Friendly receptionist.

Disliked: Misleading site - suggested easy access to the river whereas it was in top of hill and miles from anywhere at all. Pitch up claimed 4 pure he’s left and yet sure was more or less empty - presumably because it was miles from anywhere.

Merci d'avoir séjourné chez nous pour ces 3 jours, je suis assez étonné par vos commentaires, en effet vous êtes arrivées avec votre compagnon en dehors des heures d'ouvertures de la réception et en plus vous voulez que l'on vous déroule le tapis rouge. Je travaille dans cet établissement depuis 45 ans et mon équipe et moi même sommes assez aguerries dans notre profession, nous veillons toute l'année a entretenir notre établissement par conséquent, je me demande comment vous pouvez juger en étant très peu dans le camping et en plus sur 3 jours? De plus les toilettes fonctionnent parfaitement il suffit de bien tirer la chasse! Cordialement. Jean-michel Delabroye.

Local attractions

The big daddy around these parts is most definitely the Pont-d'Arc, the jaw-dropping stone gorge 35 metres high that leads into the (also jaw-dropping) Ardèche canyon. Paddling under here is a bit of a must; arrange a trip in the gateway town of Vallon Pont-d'Arc, and sort someone on the bank to snap a bragworthy photo as you glide smugly past. Just outside Vallon Pont-d'Arc are the also-famed caves of Chauvet (20 minutes' drive), a UNESCO World Heritage Site with some of the best-preserved Palaeolithic drawings on the planet. The caves have been closed to the public since 1994 to keep the drawings in their preserved state, but an excellent replica is close by at Caverne du Pont-d'Arc, a full-size copy of this splendid site and the biggest cave replica ever built in the world. Local caves open to the public are Aven d'Orgnac (15 minutes) and Cocalière (30 minutes), as well as the caverns – and dinosaur park – of Aven Marzal, 25 minutes away. For villages, have a day each in Balazuc (35 minutes), listed as an Ardèche village of character, and Anduze, a medieval settlement at the foot of the Cevennes an hour and five minutes away.
