  • Well-kept rural Denbighshire site raising money for charity
  • A 10-minute drive to the beaches of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Catering on site from Friday eve to Sunday morning
Want to book yourself a break and do some good for the world at the same time? What an excellent idea – and one that you can bring to reality when you stay at Pet Rescue Fundraising Camp Site, a five-acre site in the Denbighshire countryside just outside the village of Dyserth. Profits from stays here go towards funding animal rescue and care – so perhaps it’s no surprise that dogs are welcome to join you for a little holiday here. Doggy daycare is available for those who need it and all dogs will need to be kept on a lead and supervised at all times (and you’ll need proof of full vaccination too). This location makes a splendid spot for exploring north Wales – a cycle path runs past the entrance with a link to the North Wales Coastal Route, and there are plenty of walks around too. Rhyl and Prestatyn are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for beach times, and there are castles, gardens and all sorts of other things to fill days with. You’ll probably get a bit of a warm glow from knowing that you’re supporting a charitable cause by staying here – and that’s likely to grow even stronger when you see the facilities that have been provided. A washing-up area, toilets and showers are all included, and you can boost your break even further by hiring a firepit, grass heat shields (these are required for firepits or barbecues) or a windbreak. Logs can be purchased on site for the firepits. And that’s not all – there’s also a catering area that serves up cooked breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks (hot, cold and alcoholic) as well as running events like pizza nights and hotpot gatherings. The catering is open from Friday evening to Sunday morning breakfast.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Almost everything.

Disliked: The shower at the far end of the site (nearest to where we were) needs some maintenance. Also there should be water for rinsing portable toilets which is separate from the drinking supply.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Perhaps you could have asked the staff if there was a problem with the shower it requires code to gain access and is limited to the EHU pitches only. The very large above ground water tank 1000Lt next to the portable toilet tank is to rinse your toilet out and is not near the fresh drinking water tap or hot pot wash for obvious reasons but cant really be missed if you used the portable waste tank! All the locations of the facilities are on the MAP you were given on arrival and after a 7 day stay I am surprised you didn't bring any of these issues to my attention or any member of staff's. You failed also to mention any of these matters when you came into the reception for your EHU rebate on leaving the site. I f you still have your map of the site please do take a look for future reference should you wish to visit again. Ps thanks for your recommendations to family and friends

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Very quiet site, nice views.

Disliked: Toilets aren’t the best

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Happy you would recommend to family & friends and visit again. Not sure about your toilets comment as they are new units at £5000 each, checked regularly for cleaning & new t rolls, hand soap dispenser on hand wash sinks. Sadly we cant follow everyone in that uses them but if there was a problem perhaps informing the staff or used the phone number on the office door. Dread to think what you would have said about the portaloo's last year :) or the composting toilets we may also install to go completely green :0 Kind regards M & Staff

Liked: Great location, close to Rhyl and Prestatyn. The waterfall a must see for 50p..... Fabulous quirky feel to the site. Cafe reasonably priced and food delicious.

From the manager: We are so glad you enjoyed your short stay and hope you and the boys can visit longer next time (bigger swing should be in place by then:) Yes our site is quirky and homely just as we like it, so everyone feels part of a large family joining in together the children playing and in turn grown ups mixing & talking. It's fantastic and we hope reasonably priced, thanks for the recommendations to family and friends. Best wishes M. Lee John & John

Local attractions

Time to hit the coast? Take your bucket and spade to the sandy beaches of Rhyl or Prestatyn (both 10 minutes’ drive), get over to Llandudno (half an hour) to walk on the pier and ride the Great Orme tramway, or continue to Conwy (half an hour) to explore the castle. For rural walks you can stay local for the 15-minute stroll to Dyserth Falls, climb the peaks of the neighbouring Clwydian Range or dip your toes into Snowdonia National Park (40 minutes’ drive). The pretty pathways of Bodnant Garden (half an hour) are well worth a wander too. This being Wales, you’re never far from a castle – the turrets of Rhuddlan Castle (five minutes) are the closest, but TV fans may like to drop in at Gwrych Castle (15 minutes) to see where I’m A Celeb was staged.
