Heading to the Dumfries and Galloway countryside to soak up some of the scenery? How about being able to do that right where you're staying? That’s exactly what you’ll be able to do when staying at Kingan Farm Cottages – this scenic spot a few miles south of Dumfries has gorgeous views over the neighbouring loch towards Criffel, one of the tallest and most imposing hills in the area. Wander out onto your pod’s deck with a cup/glass of something in hand and you may well find you end up staying put for quite some time… When you do manage to tear yourselves away, you’ll note you're in a very handy position for getting out and about to see some more of the area. This location has very easy access to/from the main road, giving you speedy journeys to Dumfries (15 minutes' drive) or to the area's many hiking spots, castles, beaches and family attractions. Half a mile away, New Abbey has a handy convenience store and a tea room for tasty treats after your days out. You’ll be able to sort your own treats back at base, too, as your luxury pod has a well-equipped kitchen area with a cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. Also included in the design are a double bed and sofa bed, an ensuite shower room and a comfy living space. Bed linen, towels and heating are all included to keep things convenient and cosy.

Lily camping pod

Liked: Lovely space, well equipped and thought out. Warm and cosy when the weather was wild and a nice deck to sit out on by the pond when it was warmer. Peaceful surroundings, ideal for walking and being in nature. Only a 10 minute walk to the centre of New Abbey. Lovely, helpful host.

Local attractions

Nice little local walk to start your stay? The stroll up to New Abbey will take you about 10 minutes, and when you get there you can have a look around the ruins of Sweetheart Abbey before stopping in for a scone in the tea room. After that, there are more lovely walks in places like Bainloch Deer Park (15 minutes' drive), or you can up the speed on the mountain bike trails at 7stanes Mabie Forest (10 minutes). Of course, you’ll also be not far from the Galloway Forest Park (45 minutes), which has heaps of trails for hikes and bike rides, plus all sorts of adventure activities like watersports and canyoning. Closer to home, kid-friendly rural activities are on hand at Mabie Farm Park (10 minutes) and Dalscone Farm Fun (20 minutes). A trip to Dumfries (15 minutes) is a good idea, too – famed Scottish poet Robert Burns spent the final years of his life here, and the town is now home to the Robert Burns Centre; you can also visit his former home at Robert Burns Ellisland Farm (25 minutes).
