  • Small, peaceful Picardy site five mins' drive from Domart-en-Ponthieu
  • Amiens and Le Crotoy both within a 45-minute drive
  • Play area and bar on site; farm animals to meet
Family holiday, group getaway or a much-needed couple’s trip… whichever one you’re planning, you’ll get a warm welcome at Domaine de Tallat, in Picardy’s Nièvre Valley. This is a peaceful and eco-conscious rural site with about five acres of space where you can relax, meet the farm animals and soak up the hilly scenery all around. The owners are keen for this to be a serene and restful place to stay so they’ve gone for simple facilities rather than full-blown family entertainment, but you’ll still have access to a play area for the kids and a small bar for the grownups. Picnic tables, a shared fridge and good bathroom facilities are also on hand for convenience, and there’s also a covered communal area with chairs and tables where you can serve meals, meet your fellow guests and/or shelter from the weather. Domart-en-Ponthieu (five minutes' drive) is your closest source of supplies for meals and drinks. This site makes a great base for exploring this area, with day trips to places like Amiens and Abbeville, and it’s also not far to the Bay of the Somme, for beach days, coast walks and a dip into the area’s wartime history.

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked Really cool campsite with lots of cute and quirky teepees and cabins on site to stay in. Super quiet and relaxing in the middle of the countryside. The owner was amazing, communication by email was really quick and helpful stayed up to welcome us when our arrival was delayed after 10pm.

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked Small quiet site in great location. Clean facilities. Friendly lady who runs the site put me up indoors, at no extra charge, because of bad weather forecast.

Disliked Nothing. All good.

Local attractions

This part of Picardy is packed with historic attractions to help you get a sense of the area’s heritage. One of the closest of these is the lovely Abbaye Royale de Saint-Riquier (15 minutes’ drive), founded in 625 and recently restored and reinvented into a cultural centre that hosts a festival of jazz and classical music in summer. A little further afield, Château d’Eaucourt (25 minutes) hosts a medieval festival in the summer where visitors can see jousting contests, try out skills like leatherwork and calligraphy and join themed meals. The towns of Abbeville (half an hour) and Amiens (35 minutes) are both worth a trip for their well-preserved streets and buildings, and there’s a good chance to learn about the area’s wartime history at Somme 1916 Museum (50 minutes). For a blast of sea air, head up to the Baie de Somme (45 minutes) to take a walk through the coastal nature reserve or visit the art galleries and hit the sandy beach in Le Crotoy.
