  • Quiet site on the banks of the Luech river with a private beach
  • Three hikes through Cévennes National Park starting from the grounds
  • Playground, library, board games, table tennis and grocery shop
For hols spent swimming in the clear waters of the Luech river and basking on its banks amid tree-lined scenery, set off for the Cévennes National Park in south-central France. And more specifically, set off for Camping Le Moulin du Luech in the village of Peyremale, a site with its own private beach beside this very river. The owners call this area in the south-east region of the Massif Central ‘a little corner of paradise’ and it’s hard to disagree – the leafy surrounds and limited numbers of guests make for a serene setting, while activities such as gardening and driftwood carving help to slow life down even more. But if you’re itching for adventurous times…? Le Moulin du Luech also makes an excellent base for heading out on roams right from the site, along one of three hiking trails through the wildlife-rich Cévennes National Park – ask staff for recommended routes – or getting out into the surrounding Gard department for outdoor activities like canoeing, canyoning, rock climbing, cycling and horse riding. Return from such energetic expeditions to soothe your feet in the river (preferably with a picnic of local delicacies such as goat’s cheeses, wine and honey from local markets and the park’s grocery shop), or go on gentle ambles along the banks to drench yourself in nearby pools and waterfalls. There’s also a playground, library, board games, ping pong and table football to have a go at around the grounds. Once night falls, lie on the grass and stare upwards – with minimal light pollution, the Cévennes National Park is Europe’s biggest dark sky reserves, and the stars put on a stunning show after dusk when there aren’t any clouds about.
