- Dog-friendly stays among Queensland bamboo groves
- Next to Mount Bauple National Park; 30 minutes' drive to Maryborough
- Fully-fenced property with a dam
Bed down among the bamboo groves at GSM Bamboo Farm RV and Caravan Park. Based right alongside the Mount Bauple National Park, this dog-friendly site is midway between Gympie in the south and Maryborough in the north, and about half an hour's drive from both.
This Queensland park is designed for self-contained travellers who can bring their own toilet – and you'll get your own individual grove among the bamboo groves. The property tries to keep each spot as private and peaceful as possible, and the entire place is fully fenced. Once everyone’s inside, staff make sure that the gate is locked after hours, so you’ll be in safe hands (and there’s always someone on site to assist you if you need it).
Also at the park is a dam with a flock of ducks and geese, which kids can feed by hand. During the mango season, feel free to pick your own mangoes straight off the trees. In the wet season, there’s a creek running through the property too. With bamboo and mango trees on site and the Bauple mountains directly behind the property for a scenic backdrop, this is an outdoor escape indeed.
There’s a museum in the village of Bauple, five minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions
Could it be the chance to explore natural landscapes that’s brought you to this area? There are plenty of stunning areas within easy reach here, starting with the hiking trails of Tuan State Forest (35 minutes’ drive) and Mungomery's Vine Forest (55 minutes), both expanses of coastal forest that are well worth exploring.
For other outdoor activities, there’s some great fishing in Poona National Park (45 minutes) and you can get around on foot or by canoe in Great Sandy National Park (55 minutes). If you’ve not seen all the animals you’d like to see yet, stop by at Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary (half an hour’s drive), where you can feed kangaroos, chat with parrots and learn all about snakes and dingoes.
And how about a quick dive into the area’s past too? Make your way to Maryborough for heritage buildings and a Mary Poppins trail (in homage to the author, local girl Pamela Lyndon Travers) or Gympie for steam train rides and a gold mining museum – both are about half an hour away.
