  • Small, family-run farm site in south Wales’s scenic Neath Valley
  • Aberavon Beach 25 minutes’ drive; Gower Peninsula 40 minutes
  • Toilets and showers; campfires; covered communal barbecue area
Surrounded by the mountains and woodlands of the scenic Neath Valley of south Wales, Wenallt Wild Camp is a peaceful spot on a family-run farm on the outskirts of the village of Tonna, a 10-minute drive from the market town of Neath. There’s a lot to like about this site, starting with its handy location – within walking distance of the River Neath, plus convenience stores and a pub. Gnoll Country Park (five minutes’ drive or 20 minutes on foot) has woodland walks, duck ponds and adventure playgrounds, plus a nine-hole pitch-and-putt golf course. There’s also a lot to like about how easy it is to get out to the coast. The sandy beaches of Aberavon and Port Talbot are about 25 minutes away, while the Gower Peninsula (40 minutes), an area of outstanding natural beauty, has dramatic coastal paths, sheltered coves and historic sites such as the ruins of medieval Weobley Castle. There’s also lots to see (including waterfalls) along the area’s inland waterways. Wenallt Wild Camp has facilities including toilets and showers (all of which are maintained to a high standard) and a covered communal barbecue area with a dart board, dining table and firepit. You also have permission to build campfires (in the designated areas) and dogs (on leads) are welcome on site. Need to stock up on supplies? Try the local farm shop (five minutes) and sample some fresh Glamorgan produce.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (pet friendly)

Liked This site is in a quiet, beautiful spot with views across the hills, although sadly we had some rain and mist so didn’t get to enjoy the view as much as we’d have liked!
The owners were super helpful and friendly . The compost loos were very well maintained and easy to use. The shelter in the big field was a very handy dry space to hang out when it rained. The only thing that it would have been handy to know beforehand is that you can’t drive onto the main field where tents pitch, so don’t plan to use an electric air pump and bring a trolley to carry your stuff across to your pitch!
Campervan pitches were around the edge of the main field, but it was possible to pitch a tent nearby to our friends in a van.

Disliked We rented one of the huts. Beds could have been more comfortable for our taste, but it did the job for a night.

Liked Our second time here, lovely site and Adele and the rest of the team are fantastic. Super clean site, quiet and relaxing. Good lean accommodation at a great price. Adele even got us some sun loungers which was no trouble or extra cost. Absolute star. We shall return soon.

Disliked Not a bad word to be said about this place.

Liked Friendly greeting from owner, back to basics site, quiet, nice views over the valley..

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (pet friendly)

Liked Absolutely everything! Beautiful location, a friendly welcome, fantastic facilities, basic but it a wild camp and everything was super clean and functional. Lovely warm showers, fire pits and a washing up stand. The best sunsets, views of the mountains and loads of space between tents. We loved our stay here.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (pet friendly)

Liked We had a wonderful stay at Wenallt Wild Camp. We were welcomed by our hosts and given lots of information about the surrounding area. The compost toilets were kept very clean and a fire pit provided. The views were fabulous from the campsite and the surrounding woods were full of birds and wildlife. There is plenty of space around the pitches. We didn't have quite long enough to stay so will definitely be back again.
