  • Well-maintained rural site with pitches surrounded by trees
  • On the edge of Ruabon; Llangollen 15 minutes' drive
  • Easy access from A539; half a mile to pubs and a railway station
Set yourself up for leisurely North Wales breaks at James Caravan Park, a well-maintained site on the edge of the small town of Ruabon. There's a range of styles of pitches here, from grass-based basic options to hard-standing fully-serviced plots, plus a host of handy amenities like a centrally heated toilet and shower block. With easy access off the A539 dual carriageway, the park grounds are spacious and dotted with trees, but please be aware there may be some traffic noise. With so much room on site, your nearest neighbours are likely to be the various forms of local wildlife that flit among the trees (although when you're feeling more sociable, it's an easy half-mile walk to the nearest pub). The park is a 15-minute drive from the gorgeous town of Llangollen, the base of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Guests with an adventurous side have all sorts of activities to try out here, from river rafting to boating, trail riding and more. Larger towns and cities like Wrexham (10 minutes' drive), Chester (30 minutes) and Liverpool (50 minutes) are also well within reach for urban day trips. The nearest station is under 15 minutes' away on foot, making it easy to catch the train to Chester (journey time 20 minutes) or Shrewsbury (30 minutes) too.

What customers say

This campsite gets rave reviews for its super friendly, helpful staff, spotless facilities, and lovely, tree-filled grounds. It's conveniently located near shops and pubs, making it a great spot for exploring. While usually quiet, some guests heard traffic noise from the main road. Most pitches are roomy, but a few were a bit close or uneven.

FHU cement/asphalt campsite

Liked The wardens.
Clean toilets (that are cleaned by the lovely wardens!)

Disliked Nearly everything!!
Be warned…….THERE ISNT ANY WIFI.
We run a holiday let and need WiFi for any bookings we get. It’s doesn’t say anywhere that there isn’t any so we had to spend a fortune everyday going into a nearby Costa to get WiFi!!
It has the potential to be a beautiful site but it’s really, really shabby.
Tv reception is rubbish too, don’t know if that’s the case with all pitches but where we were it was awful.
So we’ve put it down to experience. After more than 35 years caravanning there haven’t really been any sites that we said we won’t go back to, but this takes the award of never to return to.
There is also a lot of road noise that they do warn you about, but because it’s such a constant noise tbh you do get used to it.

Powered grass campsite

Liked New owners have maintained the country estate appearance of the grounds, new hard standings spread spaciously still leaves 30ish grass H/Ups or wild pitches.
toilets/showers/ dish wash area all very well maintained and plenty of hot water.
Security barrier lets in only on access code and on site management contacts at all time

Disliked Stayed here before and pleased with continued excellence nothing to complain about

Powered grass campsite

Liked Fantastic site with great hosts. First time camping with our girls football team and the hosts were so accommodating. They helped us fix our tents up and gave us lots of tips. A chippy van came around 6.00 so kids were easily pleased and an ice cream van appeared later. Would highly recommend, would definitely come again.

Local attractions

Hoping for history? You've come to the right place. Take a trip to Chirk Castle (10 minutes' drive) and discover one of the most impressive Marcher fortresses on the border between England and Wales. Afterwards, similarly scenic and historic times are to be had at the National Trust-run Erddig Estate (15 minutes), a spectacular Grade I-listed property with fab formal grounds. Water has done such a lot to shape the Welsh landscape, and the area surrounding James Caravan Park has a fair bit of the wet stuff to admire. Check out the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (10 minutes) on the Shropshire Union Canal to see an exceptional feat of Victorian engineering, and stick around to take a boat ride by its arches along the river Dee. For a break with one foot in Wales and the other in England, trundle along by train to Chester Zoo (or drive there in 30 minutes), take yourself off to Tate Liverpool (50 minutes) for art and culture, or – if you really want to make the kids' day – organise a jaunt to the high-adrenaline rides at Gulliver's World Theme Park (50 minutes).
