  • Cosy camping barn 10 minutes’ drive from Pwllheli in North Wales
  • Nefyn five minutes’ drive; Welsh National Sailing Academy 10 minutes
  • Private courtyard with barbecue, covered camp kitchen and shower room
Time for a digital detox in spectacular North Wales countryside? Form an orderly queue and head straight for Nant Bach Retreat, 10 minutes’ drive from the shops and pubs of Pwllheli in Gwynedd. Here you can step off the conveyor belt of modern life and reconnect with nature at a cosy, no-frills camping barn. Designed as a retreat for two, the barn has a king-size bed, a woodfired stove and a window seat in pole position to catch the rural views. Behind the barn is a cobbled private courtyard with comfy banquette seating, a barbecue, no-frills covered camping kitchen and modern shower room with hot running water. There is no wifi here, so all the pressure is off; you can relax in comfort, soak up the stunning sunsets, or settle down with a favourite book in the quiet reading nook. When outside, look out for buzzards and kites soaring in the thermals, or woodpeckers, jays and owls among the trees. Your only neighbours will be a flock of Texel sheep, who – along with their lambs in spring – spend their days manicuring surrounding fields. As part of the family, dogs are welcome at Nant Bach Retreat, but please keep them under control around local livestock.

Liked We stayed for only one night much to our dismay. We could have spent the week there! The hut was so cosy with all the amenities you could possibly need. The bed was very cosy and comfortable too. The woodfired hot tub was a lovely addition especially after a long day of hiking.

John was so welcoming and informative.

There was a bbq within our space that we enjoyed both for dinner and later as a fire pit.

The stay was so beautiful we were sad to leave, but we will definitely be back.

Liked We stayed for two nights . The landpod was lovely inside and in a private area of it's own amongst the trees with a table and chairs , firepit and BBQ in its outside space . The hot tub near the shared facilities was a fantastic bonus . The shared facilities were a kitchen set up and bathroom with toilet , sink and shower. All were clean and well equipment. The location is stunning and the John owner was brilliant with us during our stay . We all had a great time , we will be recommending, we will be back.

Disliked Nothing at all we had a brilliant time .

Liked Beautiful site from start to finish owner & his family was very helpful & polite, site was very clean and well maintained, hot tub was cleaned daily, we booked the large camping pod for 2 nights but stayed for 3 as it was that beautiful.

Disliked Toilets are a little far from large camping pod, maybe a camping Toilet option or portaloo would benefit as its a very dark walk in the middle of the night. (Would not stop us from staying again just an opinion)

Liked The hosts were really friendly and recommended a spot for breakfast. They added ice packs to the fridge to keep our drinks cool. The pod was cosy and comfortable, the views and the tranquility were wonderful and the hottub was the icing on the cake. A wonderful stay

Local attractions

With its dramatic backdrop of peaks in Eryri National Park (formerly Snowdonia) and calm seas, Pwllheli (10 minutes’ drive) is one of the most popular sailing bases in North Wales; if being out on the water is your passion, book lessons at the Welsh National Sailing Academy and check out the sleek yachts in Hafan Pwllheli Marina. Firmly back on terra firma, stretch your legs on beach walks at Nefyn (five minutes), a pretty seaside village of whitewashed cottages that’s home to the Llŷn Maritime Museum, which displays boat-building tools and artefacts saved from shipwrecks. From there, you can hike to Porthdinllaen (55 minutes’ walk), a peaceful fishing village on the shores of the Irish Sea where seals are often spotted basking on rocks. Forays into Eryri (35 minutes’ drive) are on the cards too. Go walking in the Moelwynion Mountains from the biking-and-hiking hub of Blaenau Ffestiniog (45 minutes), while braver souls can try out the zipwire rides through the former slate mine at Zip World Llechwedd (50 minutes).
