  • Family-friendly site 100 metres from the promenade
  • A 15-minute walk from Barmouth beach; 25 minutes to the town centre
  • Playground and a shop on site; on National Cycle Route 8
Just 100 metres from the sea, Hendre Mynach Caravan and Camping Park is a rather splendid base for a break in northwest Wales. This family-friendly site is a five-minute stroll from Barmouth’s promenade, and sandy Barmouth beach is a pleasant 15 minutes’ walk away – or a quick ride on the small land train that travels up and down the promenade. When you’re not sea fishing from the shore, taking a peaceful paddle or watching the kids bounce on the trampolines on the beach, head to Barmouth Harbour (half an hour’s walk), the departure point for boat trips and off-shore fishing. An amusement park and leisure centre are other entertainment options in town, where foodies will find plenty of cafĂ©s and restaurants. Hendre Mynach Caravan and Camping Park is a convivial spot: families, couples, friendly bikers and rallies (outside of peak season, please) are all welcome, as are backpackers and solo travellers (at a discount during low season). There’s a playground for the kids, and keen cyclists are also catered for: National Cycle Route 8 runs past the site. It’s well equipped too, with water on all pitches, washing-up facilities and a modern shower block with shaver points, hairdryer and straighteners. There’s also a launderette, baby-change facilities with a baby bath, Elsan waste disposal points, a drive-on motorhome drain, tarmac roads and CCTV. Helpful staff are available 24 hours a day, gas and wifi are sold at reception, and there’s a shop on site, plus a local bus stop nearby.

What customers say

This well-kept campground is perfectly located, a short walk from the beach and Barmouth town. Guests rave about the friendly, helpful staff and clean facilities, though some find them a bit dated. Spacious, level pitches with hook-ups are common. Ideal for families, the site offers a quiet atmosphere and great value.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The site is ideally placed for Barmouth Town Centre and the beach. Lovely sunsets can be seen from the promenade just behind the campsite.

Well kept pitches, clean facilities, small shop onsite.

Disliked The facilities are a good 10 minutes walk from the non electric field. Plenty of toilets but only four showers resulting in queues. Dishwashing and elsan points are also in this block.

Not many water stands, we had to walk to the next field.

Trainline behind the site so was noisy when trains passed.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful, clean, well located camp site.
Minuets walk away from the stunning beach and a little further into the town with plenty to do and lots of entertainment for children of all ages.

Staff lovely, friendly and very helpful! Even got assistance when my car needed a jump start when leaving our stay with them ( for which I am extremely grateful )

Pitches are a good size with plenty of space and there’s nothing better than hearing the sea when you’re drifting off to sleep.

Disliked We pitched in the Non EU field - this is quite far away from the shower and toilet block so I’d recommend taking a camping loo for that morning wee when you’re busting! On the other hand you definitely get your steps in when doing your’ I’m busting dance ‘ on the way to them.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely campsite. Clean, all facilities needed are there. Staff are lovely and helpful.

Disliked Whoever thought putting the non electric field, who are mainly tents, the furthest from the toilets deserves a brain cell.

Thanks to my garmin, I found out to go to the loo and back to my tent was a mile!

Laundry, showers and shop are also the same but I didnt desperately need a shower once I woke up!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your insult, unfortunately due to the levelness of the site we cannot get drains to non-electric but we are looking at ways around this. You might have got close to a mile If you had to go to the second toilet block rather than the nearest toilet block if it was closed for cleaning, we give everyone the cleaning times when they arrive. The nearest toilet block is approximately 450 / 500 metres from the furthest non-electric pitch, anyone who knows how to camp have a lugaloo.

Powered cement/asphalt campervan campsite

Liked This is a perfect location. If you need a break from everyday life, value peace and quiet, and want to leave your car behind for a few days and walk to the beach or a nearby town, this place is definitely for you. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The toilets and showers are clean and checked several times a day. It was my first time there, but I'll definitely be back with my family.

Powered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked Massive pitch
Great family site
Easy access to the beach
Nice staff
Water tap on our pitch
Great WiFi
Site was clean and tidy
Clean and roomy showers
Clean toilets
Lovely little shop
Friendly and family atmosphere
Close to Barmouth

Disliked Nothing to really dislike, I’d be picking fault if I tried. Everything was clean and tidy and as you’d expect, somethings were a little dated, but why fix something if it’s not broke? I have no dislikes.

Local attractions

The burial site of Cors y Gedol (10 minutes’ drive) dates from about 4000 BC. Not much is left of the original stone mound, but the sea views alone are well worth the hike, plus you can push on to climb the slopes of Moelfre from here. If mountains are your thing, check out Penygader (35 minutes) and Snowdon (50 minutes), Wales’s highest peak. Got your mountain bike with you? Coed y Brenin Forest Park (half an hour) has eight purpose-build trails catering to all abilities and a skills area to practise your bunny hops, plus hiking paths taking in ruined copper mines, viewpoints and waterfalls. Speaking of which, at Dolgoch Falls (45 minutes), forested trails take you up close and personal to the cascades. At the Italianate-style village of Portmeirion (35 minutes), elegant architecture, pastel-coloured houses and lush subtropical gardens will have you believe you’re in Portofino. Stop for afternoon tea and don’t forget to buy some pottery.
