  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Pen Y Bont Caravan Park earns praise for its top-notch, modern amenities, spotless restrooms, and helpful staff. Enjoy spacious sites in a beautiful setting, close to Bala Lake and downtown. Guests rave about the peaceful vibe, well-kept grounds, and convenient shop. Mostly recommended, though some note road noise on specific spots and occasional WiFi problems.

Powered grass tent campsite (medium)

Liked Staff were very welcoming and helpful, toilets, showers and cleaning facilities were very good , site shop was well stocked with essentials, all round very tidy and well organised site will definitely use again.

Disliked Ground was very rocky and difficult to peg out tents, just be prepared with strong pegs and a good hammer 👍

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (small, maximum 6 metres)

Liked Spotlessly clean, friendly and helpful staff, cracking location.

Disliked My pitch was at the entrance of the site so a lot of road noise and people coming and going. Did go quieter later at night.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated and yes, when you come and visit us again either fix your pitch on our interactive map or ask for a pitch at the top of our site. Hopefully see you soon.

Little Green shepherd's hut

Liked Everything about this campsite was perfect. The size of the site wasn't too big, very full and surprisingly quiet. Toilet/shower/washing up block was clean and modern. The shepherd hut was comfortable and cosy. Friendly staff. Short walk to lake and into town. Great for exploring surrounding areas. I would definitely return at some point in the future.

Disliked Nothing

Powered grass tent campsite (medium)

Liked The lay out of the campsite was lovely and the staff were incredibly helpful when we needed them.

The facilities were overall clean and we liked that the large bin area was out the way.

Large pitches, with plenty of space and privacy!

Disliked No bins in the women’s toilet and shower rooms, this was in convenient when having empty packets, floss, tissues that needed to be binned after getting ready / showered.

The getting ready cubicles could’ve been cleaned more frequent, more so the sinks and surface around the sink.

We thought the price was a little steep following our stay.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated. We decided a few years ago not to put bins in the shower block due to customers not appreciating them and there was a constant mess which proved to be difficult to keep on top of it when we were incredibly busy, this is why we have put a big bin outside both shower blocks . Glad that you thought that the facilities were overall clean but on the other hand could have been cleaned more frequently? It is nice to see that you are happy to come and visit us again even though you think the price is a little steep. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind Regards

Powered grass tent campsite (large)

Liked Second time here in the summer holidays and had a great time. Booked a large pitch this time which gave us a lot more space for the kids to play.

Facilities are well maintained and clean. Site is family friendly with a nice atmosphere. Jan and Grace are lovely. Went above and beyond to get our butchers order when it didn’t arrive on time so we could have our bbq dinner! Looking forward to returning next year.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Joanna - it's been a pleasure to have you and your family on site and we look forward to welcoming you back again next season! ❤

Will definitely stay again, just needs a few tweaks

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (XL)

Liked Great location, nice layout, great pitches, toilets and showers are modern

Disliked Constant stink from the drains from the toilet block, showers too hot and underfloor heating could do with being on even though summer, also no hair dryer in men’s but apparently there is in the women’s toilets, no firm rules which although gives trust late night music, talking laughing from other campers until 1:30-2am sometimes really disruptive to sleep

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and glad you found the shower block clean and modern. We will take on board the fact that there is no hair dryer in the men's shower block even though this is the first comment about this we have had since we have been here!. The septic tanks are emptied every 2 weeks to ensure minimum smell but at times the direction of the wind does not help the matter. Showers are set to the legal requirement but obviously we cannot please everyone and as for campers laughing and talking into the early hours of the morning, if we don't know about it we can't do anything about it. There is an emergency number on the reception door 24/7 which is there if there is a problem after 11.00pm when the warden finishes the rounds.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
