  • Quiet Mid Wales coastal campsite overlooking spectacular Cardigan Bay
  • Walking distance to Mwnt Beach; Castell Henllys half an hour’s drive
  • Family site with a play park, animals to meet and a well-stocked shop
With sweeping views over Cardigan Bay – home of a well-known dolphin pod – peaceful, family-run Blaenwaun Caravan Park is set on an organic beef and arable farm 15 minutes’ drive north of Cardigan in Mid Wales. This quiet spot overlooks the gorgeous National Trust-owned Mwnt Beach, which can be reached via a bridleway from the site. This coastal caravan park is a great base for the whole family; there’s a fantastic play area on the edge of the camping field (so parents can keep an eye on their offspring from the pitches), and there’s masses of room for ball games, kite flying or riding bikes. As if that’s not enough, youngsters can feed pot-bellied pigs, Jemima the goat and Pippi the pony, while pet ducks have a free run of the place. Access the Ceredigion Coast Path from the site (bring any dogs with you for seaside walkies), and give alfresco cooking on the barbecue a go too. There’s a well-stocked shop on site, selling fresh bread, milk, free-range eggs and farm-produced organic beef, as well as gifts and camping essentials. To make life even easier, electric hook-ups are available, and you can use the basic kitchen equipment (microwave, kettle, fridge and toaster) in the laundry room. The facilities block has a disabled shower room and baby-changing facility too.

What customers say

Highly recommended, well-kept site with amazing sea views & sunsets. Praised for friendly owners, great pitches & facilities, incl. playground & kitchen. Showers usually hot/clean, though some had temp control/space issues. Great for exploring coast, but beach walk is hilly.

Liked Lovely site, play area is great for the kids and the owners are really helpful.

We met some lovely families and lots of kids for the little ones to join in with games or play on the park in the evening. It’s not noisy at night so easy to get kids off to sleep.

Lovely beaches close by, a field opposite to fly kites or walk dogs.

We will return next summer holidays

No phone signal, was a plus for me as I needed a break but if your glued to it then EE just doesn’t work

Liked We loved the family atmosphere to the campsite. It was clean, and although the facilities are basic, they were perfect for our needs.
Having a play park on site was an amazing bonus.

Disliked Not as a criticism of the campsite, as there’s not a lot that they can do, but if arriving this summer, bring wasp spray, as the area is inundated with them.

Liked Absolutely fantastic campsite! Have already recommended it to friends and family and we will definitely be back! The owners were so wonderful, kind, and patient with our autistic daughter who formed a strong interest in them and was excited to see them every day and tell them about her adventures. The facilities on the site were fantastic, clean, and easy to access, especially handy having a family washroom. The park for the children is situated perfectly and our pitch looked right out onto it, allowing us as parents to keep an eye on our daughter whilst also instilling in her some independence. Shop on site which opened twice a day was handy, especially when we first arrived and were able to grab some milk and tea bags (Yorkshire tea bags too I may add!) in order to have a well needed brew after a 6 hour journey. Washing machines and dryers were a lovely added bonus, toaster, microwave, kettle, and even a hob all available, plus a fridge and freezer should you need it. Plenty of taps available around the campsite, all of which are drinking water. A food truck arrived on Sunday morning for breakfast and again in the evening which was a lovely treat. Pitch sizes were excellent, we had enough space to fully erect our 4m by 8m tent including the porch section without feeling like we were engrossing on anyone else's pitch. WiFi available on site which was very handy, it is surprisingly strong and available to all, I was worried it may drop out or not be strong enough with a whole campsite using it but it worked absolutely fine! Lots of places to explore nearby, with Mwnt beach either a 20 minute walk from the campsite through fields and walkways, or a 5 minute drive. Poppit Sands is also a lovely beach which is patrolled by the RNLI. Cardigan itself is a lovely little town, we ate at Pizza Tipi one night which was a lovely experience eating by the riverside. A Bay to Remember boat trip is a must do, pre booking advised, wonderful experience seeing dolphins in their natural habitat. Cardigan Farm also very good as there is a coastal walk where we saw Seals swimming in the bay below us. Dinosaur World in Tenby (about an hour away) is a fun filled day out for the kids. Overall, an absolutely fantastic week with beautiful views and friendly people, we can't wait for our next trip!

Disliked There is nothing I can say about this campsite that would amount to a dislike!

Local attractions

Cardigan Bay is home to a myriad of marine wildlife. Migrating dolphins can often be seen offshore, and there are numerous boat trips departing St Dogmaels (15 minutes’ drive) to view harbour porpoises, Atlantic grey seals and the resident pod of bottled-nosed dolphins. Sporty types will fit right in here too. Golfers can make a beeline for the 18-hole championship course at Gwbert (10 minutes), and there are three other courses within about 20 minutes’ drive. Sailing aficionados can hire boats in Gwbert, and riders explore the countryside on horseback from the local equestrian centre (20 minutes). For a change of pace, learn about local history with a visit to the Benedictine monastery ruins in St Dogmaels, or have a nose around the mighty towers and ramparts of 13th-century Cilgerran Castle (20 minutes). Travel back in time to Castell Henllys (half an hour), a carefully reconstructed Iron Age settlement, and take a walk up to the prehistoric burial monument at Pentre lfan (half an hour).
