  • Well-kept, quiet Wiltshire farm site 10 minutes’ drive from Malmesbury
  • Westonbirt, The National Arboretum and Highgrove 20 minutes’ drive
  • Café with views over the fields; play barn for an additional fee
If you’re looking for somewhere to take the kids for a few days of country life, you should be heading to Down on the Farm, on the edge of the Cotswolds and 10 minutes’ drive from Malmesbury in North Wiltshire. This peaceful pop-up site is set on a beef farm with lots of curious cows to meet and greet, and, for an additional fee, kids can access the huge play barn to play farm-themed games and ride mini tractors about the place. And for adults? Well, there’s a popular café with views over the farm fields, a modern facilities block with family shower rooms, and a camping field sheltered by mature trees. You can also set off on rural walks from the pitches, which are dog-friendly so Fido can join in the holiday fun too. There are lots of options for family days out, whether it’s swimming off the lakeside beach at the Cotswold Water Park (15 minutes’ drive) or exploring the standing stones at Avebury (35 minutes). And if you’d rather just stick around and chill on site, you can look forward to regular colourful sunsets and nights cosied up around the firepit.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely campsite! Loads to do for the kids, a big play barn, ride on tractors, friendly cows to see. Lovely cafe and we stayed over bank holiday weekend and we saw a hot air balloon take off from site and they did a bbq. We only stayed 2 nights and the kids didn't want to leave.
About 15 mins down the road is cotswolds water park with swimming amd activities

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked This was our very first family camping trip, and we couldn’t have picked a better place! From the moment we arrived, George and Alison were so welcoming, helpful and genuinely lovely it felt more like staying with friends.
The facilities were excellent. The showers were perfect for families, with everything in one space shower, toilet and a bench making it so easy with little ones. The play barn, ride-ons and café were a huge hit, and kept our children entertained for hours.
The location is also spot on, with Cotswold Water Park, Malmesbury and Cirencester all just a short drive away. We only stayed for two nights, but our daughter was genuinely disappointed it wasn’t five and we completely understand why.
A brilliant family-friendly site with that rare personal touch. We’ll definitely be back

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful setting, in a lovely, working farm. Owners are friendly and accommodating. There’s a cafe on site serving a small menu, hot and cold drinks including alcoholic drinks. Pitches are large and grass is well kept. There’s several hard standing for motorhomes etc.
only 2 showers, which have been built inside a barn and do not have a roof so could be chilly in cooler weather. No family bathing options if your kids do not like a shower. Only 1 washing up sink. The site was quiet even though it was busy. Dogs welcome everywhere. Play barn is great if you have kids. And being able to be up close to the calves was special.
The local pub (the horse and groom) served gorgeous food. Overall a really great base for exploring. Approx 45mins drive to places like Bourton on the Water and Jeremy Clarksons pub!

Disliked Several grass pitches are on a hill. No chemical toilet disposal - however the owner did say he was in the process of sorting one out.

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Yes really enjoyed a few nights Down on the Farm. Owners are very nice and helpful.

Lovely big cafe barn there, lots of cows to pet (if they let you) and great play area for kids.
This is there first season having campers stay on the farm so just getting started.

A few more shower blocks n toilets needed but got to say the water was hot hot hot, so great. Don't think they thought the world be as busy as they are.

Out side there is only one dish washing sink possibly increase this to three stations.

Over all l will be back, great weekend had by all, great size pitches.
Close to Malmesbury and Cirencester, Cotswold water park etc not too far away.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Such a great space!
Cafe and play cafe were a great add on option and the ‘themed’ evenings were a win too.

My children loved seeing the calves and because the space was safe the kids felt they had lots of freedom running around

We had a normal pitch without electrical hook up - had loads of of space around us, football goals for the kids and a happy, family atmosphere.

Cafe cakes and coffee’s were amazing and a nice treat for us parents to have a bar open late for the pizza evening!

Lots to explore and locely walks to go on.
We will definetly book again for next year!

Disliked It’s not really a dislike as we were fine, the showers were lovely (the kids loved how they were set up)! But only having 2 showers for the entire campsite when it was full, can get a little busy but we showered early and avoided the rush.

Power optional cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Nice people but needs work …could be exceptional . The showers and toilets are pretty heath Robinson , no roof on the toilet flooring not the best showers leaking but it does appear to be a work in progress …the access road is pretty bad and if you have a half decent van you won’t be happy pulling it down the very rutted potholed access rd the grass field is beautiful but is full of ruts like a ploughed field. Bit of effort and it could be perfect getaway nice and quiet kids would love it

From the manager: We're sorry that you didn't rate your stay more highly.
The position we had allocated you was just off the concrete but you chose to change and go down the field to a different position, so wasn't what we would have expected you to be driving down.
The showers and toilets do have a roof, they are built in an old barn, so it's very high.
WIth regards to wifi, we don't advertise us having it on the campsite. We do have it in our cafe and that seems to be covering some of the campsite too so that is a bonus.
The showers are a lovely design, with laminate flooring, unfortunately on the day you came we were having issues with them leaking slightly, an issue we are addressing.

Absolutely wonderful.

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked What a wonderful new site!
The owners are absolutely fantastic and so welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble even though they were always super busy setting up for their first busy weekend!
You can really tell they are going to put their whole heart into the site and make it amazing. I hope everyone sees how hard they are working to get everything right and don’t criticise any teething problems too much.

We were lucky enough to have the chance to see a hot air balloon take off from the field next door which completed our evening perfectly!

The play barn is great and very good value food and drinks. They even opened 30 minutes early for me in the morning to make me a coffee!

We absolutely loved our night here and for the price it was excellent. Can’t wait to see what the owners do with the place as they are clearly working their socks off to make it a lovely place for everyone!

Thanks again, we will be back!
