  • Peaceful site backed by woodland in rural Dorset
  • A five-minute drive to Swanage beach; Corfe Castle 10 minutes
  • Dark site with Swanage Railway and the South West Coast Path close by
Coombe Farm Camping is a simple, peaceful site on the outskirts of Swanage in Dorset. The site is set in a 13-acre field framed by oak woods, with exceptional views across the Downs and a real chance of spotting wildlife like deer and owls. One thing you’ll get here that’s certainly a novelty is steam locomotives chuffing along Swanage Railway at the bottom of the camping field – not everyone can say they’ve got a heritage railway line almost to themselves – and there’s even a footpath down to the railway track if you’d like to get a better view of the trains. Despite this field feeling wonderfully remote, it’s actually only a five-minute drive from Swanage, with its popular beach, great pubs and restaurants. And if you’d rather cook for yourselves, here you can pick up stuff to grill on the firepit back at base. If you’re into serious walking, you can jump on the South West Coast Path in five minutes’ drive, for bracing hikes along clifftops, and if you’re keen on your medieval history, drive to 11th-century Corfe Castle (10 minutes) to scramble around the hillside ruins. Basic facilities include a tap in the washing-up area and portable toilets, but what this site is all about is the chance to spend quiet evenings sitting under the stars with family and friends – and remember to bring that telescope so you can watch the Milky Way glittering above on clear nights.

Great location, simple campground with stunning views, spacious, and peaceful. Friendly staff. Basic but clean facilities. Good for families & solo travelers. Convenient for exploring Swanage. Minor drawbacks: uneven ground, no showers/hot water.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We liked the fact that it was very basic! Just a field and exactly what camping should be. The toilets were clean despite the rain which was great and the walks for the dogs were lovely!

Disliked We actually didn’t like being able to pick ourselves where we go. We would much have preferred being told where to set up camp with things taken into account like party size, young children etc. so that way we were guaranteed to be away from bigger groups.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Very friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. They were "fully booked" but they didn't pack people/ groups in so there was still plenty of privacy and space. Simple taps for water and washing up with portaloos on site. Gave us a nice tip about the local butchers and also lent us some bricks to raise our camping stove off the ground.

Disliked The only thing I wasn't a fan of were the portaloos but at least there were 7 or 8 of them available so you never had to wait.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Absolutely lovely back to basics camping, beautiful surroundings. Owners/wardens were friendly, helpful and kept the portaloos very clean. No annoying noise, music etc..... wood for the fire was cheap, stocked and made for an excellent weekend. We would love to come back.

Disliked Some all the gear no idea types liked to camp a little closer to us than we would of liked... but noise was incredibly minimal and a huge field to pick your spot.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great location for accessing Swanage with a bus stop at the end of the track.
Very peaceful, if you camp away from the entrance, with a beautiful view & lots of space so you don't feel like you are on top of others.
The toilets were kept immaculately clean and were pleasant to use.

Disliked No hot shower - but there is a cold one if you're willing to brave it!
