  • One of the closest sites to Bournemouth
  • Sociable atmosphere that respects guests' peace and quiet
  • Lots of water-based activities to do nearby
If your destination is Dorset-based, farm yourself out to the friendly folk at St Leonards Farm Caravan & Camping Park, which is a splendid base for exploring Bournemouth, Poole and the New Forest. This is a place that has sparkling clean loos, toasty hot water for showers and washing up, and well marked-out pitches – clearly these farm folk know what campers want. And canine campers are welcome too. If you want to sizzle your own sausages, you can exchange gas cylinders on site and there are two major supermarkets within five minutes’ drive, or two pubs within a mile and a number of nearby restaurants if you’re feeling lazy/thirsty. St Leonards Farm is a sociable but quiet site and has a 'no noise after 11pm' policy – most welcome if you’re getting up at the crack of dawn for some seaside exploring.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Tidy site in a good location to explore Poole and Bournemouth. Different food vans each evening as well as ice cream van. Friendly staff.

Disliked Pitches on the small side. Could do with more toilets and showers considering the size of the site/ number of campers.

Liked Asked to be away from the shower block on electric pitch. We were put in the lower field which separated us from the rest of the campsite by a mature hedge (suited us nicely and plenty of room). We were the only ones there for two nights and then for the weekend others arrived. Fellow campers and owner very friendly (owner greeted us most mornings on her dog walk). Facilities 5 minute walk away and everything needed was there (lavatories, showers, washing up, drinking water), though not modern was very adequate. Freezer for freezer packs was free (donation for local charity). Any questions asked at reception were answered with smiles and everyone very helpful. Really lovely campsite, well run, ordered and very well situated for trips to the New Forest or the coast. We had bikes and trails easily accessed from the site. Supermarkets and petrol stations very close. Really enjoyed our stay. It is now on our list as a site we would return to.

Disliked Not a dislike ......but very occasionally hot water went cold. Main road outside site a little noisy....but you get used to that pretty quickly.

Liked The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Disliked The pitches were not marked out that well. Did not know the boundaries or how far to pitch the tent. All facilities needed some TLC and the main shower block needs a major overhaul as four toilets in the ladies were not enough for the number of campers in the morning. The showers could do with a separate area to undress and put clothes to without them getting too wet. The dishwashing area could also be upgraded to allow extra space for dishes. The number of sinks available, weren't available in the morning as two people would cover 2/3 sinks with their stuff. The park area for the children could also do with some investment. There were building works going on around the play barn. Despite there being a swimming pool picture on the website. It was not labeled on the map nor could we find it to use.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We do not anywhere on Pitch Up or our website say we have a swimming pool on site, so are not sure where you got this idea from! There are two shower block with loos in the first and second fields and there are a lot more than four!!!!

Liked Lovely and quiet site. Very basic but had all the essentials. Park is fairly modern and clean.

Disliked The main toilet block could do with some TLC but could see that other parts of the site were being invested in. Was a tight squeeze with the twin axle caravan whilst getting in and out of the site. The chemical disposal point in the main field is open to the elements with a metal lid which in the windy weather caused the lid to come down on a family members arm. They were OK but this could be looked into to make it abit safer.

Liked Location
Site was neat and tidy
Great park for kids

Disliked Felt that the shower areas could be cleaner and that the automatic timer only lasted 10
secs, very difficult when you are trying to wash small kids!

Also the soft play was closed and we were not told about this - very disappointed kids! But it didn't overly matter, just would have been nice to have that info.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked easy access from main road, clean facilities

Disliked only 6 toilet/shower/sink units in block, when all in use have to wait, and the site was not busy. Site map did not show where water points were, and where to empty grey waste. Fresh water taps were over a ground level raised "bowl" and no hosepipe attached, making it difficult to fill water hog. To empty grey waste I used motorhome service point, not sure if this was correct. Quite a lot of road noise, not what we want for a break. Also, with the toilet/shower combination, often the floor was wet when wanting to use the toilet.

From the manager: Thank you for your review however whilst we appreciate your comments we do need to correct some factual inaccuracies. As an AA 4 star site we would point out that there are multiple disposal points around the site sign posted. Most experienced campers/motorhomers carry their own hoses and fittings as most sites do not leave pipes on taps. We also have at least a dozen or so, both showers and toilets for each male and female as you presumably did not look in the main field where a larger shower block is located. We do acknowledge that on occasions you can hear the A31 but that depends on weather and time of day you can clearly see on our website that we are are located on the A31 and traffic noise is beyond our control. We are constantly in the facilities cleaning them throughout the day. We would recommend in the future that you look at some of the New Forest campsites, which may be quieter.'

Local attractions

St Leonards Farm is one of the closest sites to Bournemouth, with sandy beaches only seven miles away. There’s loads to do nearby if you’re feeling full of beans – try watersports such as windsurfing, sailing or surfing at Bournemouth’s artificial reef, or get busy with some go-karting, dry slope skiing, golf, fishing or horse-riding in the scenic surrounding countryside. Feeling a bit tired after all that sporty exertion? Take a picnic to nearby Moors Valley Country Park, which has a golf course, cycling routes and outdoor play area, or have a family day out at a plethora of local attractions including Paultons Park, Marwell Zoo, Beaulieu Motor Museum and Wimborne Minster Model Town. Kids will likely enjoy fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast, and if they’re disappointed by not finding a T-rex skeleton right there and then, you can take them along to the Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, then spoil them with a day out at Adventure Wonderland less than three miles from the park. The site is also an ideal stopover point for the Poole or Portsmouth cross-channel ferries.
