The camping fields

  • Small but spacious site overlooking the Devon coast
  • A 10-minute walk from a local bus service to Exeter and Bournemouth
  • Exmoor ponies, sheep, chicken and ducks on site
The clue is in the name – a holiday at Coombe View Farm will guarantee some of the nicest sea and countryside views east Devon has to offer. Oh, and it just so happens to be a farm too so there really is plenty to entice anyone here to pay a visit. This small but spacious site overlooks the Devonshire coast and is the perfect spot to get your fill of sea air and seriously special scenery. It has level ground and custom-made pathways for driving around, along with oodles of green grass so kids can run about and play safely. It may be rural, but you can still take advantage of the local bus service which runs between Exeter and Bournemouth (hop aboard at the stop around a 10-minute walk along the lane). The campsite has no bar, no clubhouse, nor nightly entertainment, but with campfires allowed and a haven of wildlife on your doorstep (along with the handy amenities block with loos and showers, a washing-up area and disabled facilities), this is good old quiet camping in a beautiful natural setting which makes for a truly relaxing retreat. Bring on the marshmallows... Exmoor ponies, a small flock of sheep, geese and an array of chickens on site are waiting for a visit from guests. Grab your binoculars because the hedgerows and fields surrounding the site also make a convenient home for an array of winged types for you to get your beak spotting too. Wifi is available on the farm but not guaranteed because it is in a rural location without fibre.

What customers say

This campsite provides a tranquil rural retreat with lovely views, ideal for discovering nearby beaches and villages. Guests mostly commended the friendly staff, clean facilities, and generous pitches. Some noted steep inclines, limited power, and older amenities. A few reviews mentioned poor staff encounters and site upkeep, but these seem to be isolated cases.

Powered grass tent campsite (four person)

Liked Quiet rural site which was great for our family, there was lots of space for the children to run around. Plenty of hot water for showers and washing up. They had a fridge and freezer that could be used if needed. Linzi and Helen were very helpful, answering questions and recommending places to eat - the reception area had takeaway menus as well. Branscombe beach is only down the road and there are sea views from the campsite.
Yes the shower block is basic, but the showers were hot!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked Hello, we stayed here with friends and kids for 5 days, last week. We loved this campsite. It was not too busy at any point in the week and it was quiet with lots of space and the feeling of big skies! Not too much shade on site so bring your own! The toilets and showers and washing up sinks while dated were always clean with plenty of loo roll and hot water at just the right temperature, with nature pics as an added touch. The fridge door broke in my hand and a new one was installed the same day. The owners were friendly and helpful without being intrusive and I liked the Seniors evening drive round, it felt like care. Thank you and we plan on returning next year.

Disliked Lack of shade, but still a gorgeous site with sea views!

Powered grass RV campsite

Liked The view and convenient location. Sadly, very little else.....

Disliked Obnoxious staff. The female was clearly drunk when she demanded additional payment for a tent that was too large for our pitch. (It wasn't)
Fortunately she then wandered off to speak to other campers and we didn't see her again!
Strange mobile patrols of the campsite by a male in a red Skoda Yeti. These were very regular and he stopped to complain about kids playing in the wrong places!
Archaic and grubby toilet and shower facilities. They were some of the worst that we have experienced in a very long time.
Dog poo bins overflowing and not changed in the 4 days that we stayed at the site.
No WiFi in the camping fields.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

Staff have been spoken to regarding your comment, to our knowledge no member of staff has been drinking on the job and no other reports of this have been made.
Our charges our done on tent size not pitch size and the only reason you would have been asked for further payment is if your tent was larger than what you booked.
The man in the car is our friendly owner. He likes to keep an eye on things and chat to our guests. We welcome children playing on the site but if this was around tents, or not safe they would have been asked to move.

As stated in our information our facilities are basic with plenty of hot running water. They are cleaned once a day but when the site becomes busy this is increased to twice a day or more if needed. If you had found the facilities in a bad state you would have been welcome to inform a member of staff. This then would have been sorted out.

The dog poo bins are also cleaned regularly when full. But if there was a problem you again could have let a member of staff know.

Also as stated in our information Wifi is available on our site but not guaranteed, the closer you are to the office the better chance you have at picking it up.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked What a gem of a site. Coombe view is a small (three fields), very quite and has a stunning view of the sea between rolling hills full of cows and sheep. If you want to get away from everything but still be close to all the villages and sea then this is the place for you. Lindsey is bubbly and very friendly and is always happy to help. The shower and toilet block are clean and the showers are hot. There is washing up sinks and a fridge and freezer as well. We had an amazing week camping here and would thoroughly recommend staying here. We will definitely be back. Thanks again Lindsey for a great stay - Andy, Nikki & Connor

Local attractions

Branch out to the village of Branscombe with its pretty beach, just one and half miles from the campsite. Thatched cottages, a working Norman forge and Saint Winifred church make a day out in Branscombe a mightily interesting one. If you’re after a trusty ale or a plentiful helping of hearty pub grub after a day meandering through the scenic village and brushing up on your Devonshire history, then good news - Branscome is sandwiched between two pubs serving the like. The well-looked after Jurassic Coast shingle beach has rockpools for kids to dive into exploring. With fishing trips available, a picnic area and a café serving ice creams on the beachfront too, all in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, everyone’s sure to have a splashing time… Step out on a coastal walk along the footpaths from Branscombe to the fishing village at Beer, just two miles away and with fresh fish available to buy on the sheltered beach to take back for the campfire too. There’s a unmissable all-day brekkie to be had at one of the village’s popular cafés, perfect for prepping you for a guided tour around this history-rich smuggling haven. Can’t decide where to start? Choo-choose a trip to the model railway attraction, Pecorama, to keep the kids entertained with gardens, games and train rides. For a more demanding stroll, around seven miles westward you’ll reach the resort of Sidmouth. If you can drag yourself from a deckchair on the pebbly beach, take a peek at the town’s church with its stained-glass window donated by Queen Victoria herself - it’s a royally pretty sight. While you’re up, climb the 500-foot Peak Hill to enjoy a panorama of the area too - one won’t be disappointed with the view. Music lovers - take a trip in August to have yourselves a merry time at the town’s folk festival. You’re never short of a coastline to explore around here: other seaside towns close by include Seaton (an hour’s walk or 10-minute car journey), home to the Axe Yacht Club. Hop aboard the tram here to take in the views of the estuary - twitchers, don’t forget your binos. Exeter is also just 45 minutes by car to the east. The popular university and cathedral city is home to shopping and dining galore, as well as indoor climbing and bowling centres (perfect for rainy days) and a street food market, cycling and canoeing opportunities (for the sunnier ones). A trip to these parts wouldn’t be complete without a scoop (or few) of Devonshire clotted cream dolloped on a fruit-strewn scone, and with the choice of restaurants and eateries in Exeter, you’re sure to be able to trial and test some of the best.
