  • South West Coast Path five minutes’ walk; Salcombe 10 minutes’ drive
  • Spacious grass pitches with eco-showers; pubs five minutes’ walk
Time for a chilled outdoor adventure with the kids in Devon? The spectacular countryside of the South Devon National Landscape is yours to explore at Cove Camping, a family- and dog-friendly pop-up site 15 minutes’ drive from Kingsbridge and five minutes’ stroll from Hope Cove beaches. This small and relaxed campsite is set on a Devon working farm where sheep are your closest neighbours. You’ll have your own spacious pitch and access to simple eco-friendly facilities on the side of the field, including compost toilets, gas-heated showers, a washing-up station and a rubbish/recycling area. There’s also a mains-water supply that you can use. From the camping field (it has some inclines), you can discover gorgeous South Hams towns like sailing-mad Salcombe (10 minutes’ drive), access the South West Coast Path (five minutes’ walk) or head for Hope Cove (also five minutes) to languish on one of two beaches or have a recce around the village’s pubs and restaurants.

What customers say

This campsite boasts spectacular coastal views & a convenient location near the beach and amenities. Guests loved the friendly owners and clean facilities. It's quiet and spacious, perfect for families. Some noted wind due to the exposed site and minor compost toilet quirks, but most highly recommend it and want to return.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Cove Camping is situated on a hill above the village of Hope Cove. The spacious pitches sit mainly along the ridge of the field giving uninterrupted views of the bay, looking towards Burgh Island and beyond. The site was clean and provided all the basics for off grid camping, the compost loos were the best we’d experienced. The owners do not live on site but visited everyday to ensure all was clean and tidy and to answer any questions. It was a short downhill walk to the village where there was ample choices of places to eat, a little gallery (look out for the Lego Cave), and a convenience store. There was access to several coves suitable for families and those wishing to kayak, paddle board or sea swim, a slip way gave access to the water for owners of small boats. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, enjoying dry and sunny days and warm nights. The wind can get up without warning so be sure to pitch well and secure your guy ropes.

Local attractions

The kids will be spoiled at Cove Camping, for there’s a brace of sand-and-pebble beaches to choose from in Hope Cove, both within five minutes’ walk. Not content with two beaches? There’s a sandy expanse at South Milton (10 minutes’ drive) with a landmark rock arch just offshore, and a surf school and kayak hire at popular Bantham Beach (20 minutes), which attracts food trucks in the summer months to keep hungry families well fed. If you’re keen to get out on the South West Coast Path (five minutes’ walk), turn east for Bolt Tail’s Iron Age hill fort (20 minutes) and carry on for clifftop views over the English Channel from National Trust - Bolberry Down (50 minutes). There’s another National Trust property at Overbeck’s Garden (15 minutes’ drive), where you can amble among palm trees and peer over the spectacular Kingsbridge Estuary to Salcombe (10 minutes). A visit to this pretty waterside town turns up lots of indie shops, seafood bars overlooking the yacht harbour or rum and gin distilleries for tours and tastings.
