  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

What customers say

This adults-only campsite gets rave reviews for its spotless cleanliness, roomy pitches, and great, modern facilities. Staff are always friendly & helpful, creating a peaceful vibe. Dog area and location for Dartmoor exploring are big pluses. Minor road noise is the only slight drawback. Highly recommended!

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely site, everything is clean and well kept. Friendly and informative welcome. A very good layout. The pitches are a good size. Very clean, modern shower block/facilities. The Reception has a good selection of food/spare parts available. There is a lovely little farmshop very nearby. The bus to Okehampton and Exeter stops at the gate. We loved our stay here.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked This is an amazing site . Smallish and very dog friendly. The owners are really helpful and welcoming and available. The pitches are a very good size so you aren't on top of your neighbours. Being adult only it is quiet in beautiful countryside. Just off A30 it is accessible to lots of places. There is a secure field where dogs can run off lead. Being so dog friendly noone worried if your dog occasionally barked during the day. This was only my 3rd overnight stay in my campervan . I travel alone with my dog as I was widowed last year and felt safe and among like minded people . First time other campers have chatted to me on site . I really enjoyed my stay and will definitely be back.

Aires overnight (roadside) power optional cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Very nice site. Clean and neat with a well stocked shop. Owners very helpful. Did not use WiFi.

Disliked A long side the A30 road but wasn't a problem as quite at night. Easy access.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Cheers for the great review Chris. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. The road is actually the old A30. Which is why especially at this time of the year it can become busy as it can be the diversion for the main A30. We hope to see you again. Best wishes from Leigh and David

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Quite a good location, nearest pub a 20min walk. Possibly the cleanest campsite toilets ever, and very spider-free! Nice calm campsite, no children, and even the dogs were quiet, so a very peaceful stay.
Pitches are a decent size too.

Disliked There is a busy road right by the campsite, which has loud motorbikes and cars morning, noon and night, so not quite as quiet as I would have liked.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Many thanks for your kind review. We are pleased to see that you would recommend us to friends. With regards to the road noise. You did book to stay at peak season, which sadly means that all of the roads in the UK are going to be busy. That being said when you are in a tent there really isn't anything to block any noise in or out. The road is actually very quiet during the night time and we are very lucky to have this road as it provides us with fantastic access and a bus route to Exeter/ Okehampton and even Bude. However we appreciate the good review Best wishes from Leigh & David.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The warm welcome from Leah and David. Nothing is too much trouble for this couple, if you need help, they're there to help in any way they can. The site is always in top condition, the facilities are always clean and well presented. The dog field is brilliant to let your furry friends let off some steam. We would highly recommend this site to anyone who wants a lovely quiet place to stay. We've already booked our next trip here in October.

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike about this site or the wonderful people who run it.

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
