  • Old-fashioned site in Dawlish Warren with modern facilities
  • A 15- to 25-minute walk to the beach, dunes and nature reserve
  • Seven acres of grassland in a secluded setting
Old-style camping with new-style facilities, minutes from the Devon coastline and a 500-acre nature reserve stuffed with species of all sorts… You might want two weeks at least at Leadstone Camping in Dawlish Warren. This very friendly site, which has been around since 1974, is one of those where the staff do their utmost to make sure guests have as good a time as possible. Although this is a traditional and uncommercialised site, the standards are modern. Amenities stretch to a redeveloped amenities block with hot showers, toilets, basins, a hairdryer, a baby changing unit and an accessible room with a shower, toilet and wash basin. Leadstone also has a launderette, playground, washing-up facilities and water points in the pitching fields. For other supplies and food, a supermarket is a mile away. Anyone walking the 10 minutes to Dawlish Warren will find a pub serving lunch and evening meals handily placed along the way.

Fox powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked The staff were so lovely and welcoming. Lovely quaint sight with clean modern facilities. Whilst we were there, there was a portable coffee and cake van. It took me and me and my partner 13 minutes to walk down into Dawlish Warren.

Disliked Only thing I can say is it took a while to work out the showers, we decided to go early in the morning and the temperature was perfect then.

Badger powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked *Warm welcome and shown to pitch, accommodated for us to be pitched with extended family
*Very clean and well maintained
*Toilet/shower facilities very clean, well stocked. Always available when we needed them, even with a full site in summer holidays
*Hot showers, only 20p for 5 minutes. Showered myself and 3 young children in that time!
*Baby change facilities with toilet and shower making it very family accessible
*Site felt very safe, happy to give children some independence (go to toilet block by themselves etc)
*Play park was a huge hit with my children. Open 8am-9pm which is enforced well, giving children time to come wind down
*Quiet time after 1030pm, which meant no issues with getting children to bed etc
*Huge size pitches, very accommodating with plenty of space. Easy access for electric hook ups and drinking water taps at pitches too
*Hot food available all day, along with ice creams, fresh candy floss and cakes. All reasonably priced
*Small shop with essentials on site
*Supermarket less than a mile drive away
*Funfair and beach 15 minute walk away
*Excellent farm shop cafe next door

Disliked Completely fully booked in school holidays so really busy in showers and toilets.I

NOISE a lot of it. Screaming and shouting . Mostly kids, teens congregated in playground area. When it's dark kids mostly go in and adults start. Fair enough 10.30 it's quiet.
Not much supervision going on..
no wifi. Toilet waste BLOCKED . Don't take your dog. Miles for walk off site. Not allowed on beach

Local attractions

Leadstone Camping's location makes it easy to get to most of Devon's attractions and it's simple to get from the site to wherever takes your fancy. Roads are relatively quiet for most of the year apart from in high season. Dawlish Warren is a top place to be in Devon, partly for its safe, clean beach and partly for its sand dunes leading onto 500-acre Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve, a hugely popular spot with birdwatchers and botanists. On foot, walk to the Warren (it's a safe stroll and suitable for prams) or to the South West Coast Path within 15 minutes; it's also half a mile to the Exe Cycle Trail or the circular six-mile Dawlish Discovery Walk. A mile away is the Exe estuary – another top local spot and a hit for fishing, hiking, biking and birdwatching – and the town of Dawlish itself is a mile and a half away: look out for the famous black swans. Also nearby is the harbour and two good pubs at Cockwood, two and a half miles away, and golf at Starcross before taking the ferry from here to Exmouth. Shaldon, seven miles away, has another golf course and can be reached by ferry from the busy resort of Teignmouth. For towns, take off to Exminster (nine miles; more golf), Torquay (10 miles), Newton Abbot (11 miles; racecourse and ancient market), Exeter (13 miles) and Paignton (13 miles; take the steam railway from here to Kingswear and Dartmouth).
