  • Rural camping 15 minutes’ drive from the Jurassic Coast in Devon
  • A 15-minute drive from Beer and Seaton; 25 minutes from Lyme Regis
  • Family-run park with rare breeds and walking trails to explore
Out in search of a Devon getaway a short distance from a striking coastline? You’ll soon be raising a toast for a retreat just 15 minutes’ drive from the Jurassic Coast … Farway Countryside Park is the name and it’s a truly peaceful camping experience. The spacious pitches here are located in a large field, with plenty of peace and some truly lovely views across the Southleigh Valley. This is a family-run park with rare breed animals to meet and lots of walking trails to explore. The East Devon location is quite dreamy in terms of scenery, and there’s more of that a short drive away: the Jurassic Coast, famed for its dramatic limestone cliffs, curvaceous coves and fossils, is particularly talented in that respect. Amble over The Cobb in Lyme Regis, 25 minutes’ drive away, or beeline for Beer beach (15 minutes’ drive), which is surrounded by white cliffs. After being away from your base for a while, you might start missing all your mod cons. The facilities at this site include toilets, showers and a washing-up area. Campfires are also allowed. The final jigsaw piece – for those of you with canines anyway – will be that Farway Countryside Park is dog-friendly too. There are also shops five minutes’ drive away in Colyton for gathering supplies.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Shower and toilet facilities were better than expected. Clean. Plenty of toilet roll. Showers were good.
One of the quietest sites I've been to...found out as leaving its no noise after 10pm...which normally people don't stick to.
Only stayed one night but will definitely return for a longer trip.

Close to Seaton and Beer beaches.

Disliked Only negative would be that the lay out was hard to work out when finding our pitch. Drove around 3 times but that could just be me.

Powered grass campsite

Liked We had a fantastic stay on a spacious grass pitch that gave us plenty of room and personal space, for our campervan — something we really value in a campsite.

One of the highlights for us was the ability to have a fire. We brought our own firepit and were so grateful that firewood was easily available from John, just a phone call away.

The facilities were great—plenty of toilets and showers, all clean and with lovely hot water.

The surrounding views were absolutely stunning, and there were some beautiful walks nearby to enjoy.

And as a fun little bonus, the Highland cattle and llamas added something extra special to the whole experience!

Disliked Nothing

2 bedroom lodge

Liked Standard of lodge was excellent; extremely well equipped. The view was outstanding. Very quiet and peaceful site, ideal for relaxing. Thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay.

Furnished bell tent

Liked Spacious bell tent. Little rugs beside each bed which felt cosy every morning. Self check in. Close to toilet/shower/wash up facilities. Level pitched. Quiet and peaceful. Near the coast. Kids loved the haybale stack and slide and trampoline.

Disliked No dustpan and brush so in windy weather debris on floor that would like to sweep up. Bell tent with EHU was £20 extra per night, which we did ultimately book but interested to know whether other grass pitches are charged same premium considering already paying for luxury of bell tent?

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Great site, lots of open space and stunning views

Disliked Toilet shower block not easily accessible due to a step up.
Due to the size of the toilet shower cubicles, knees hit the shower panel when trying to sit on toilet.
Trying to get in shower is very narrow door with shower control in way, so difficult for average sized people

Local attractions

Kids are in for a ride (as are the adults for that matter) on the 60 different attractions at Crealy Theme Park and Resort (half an hour’s drive). The Seaton Tramway’s (five minutes) heritage rides up the Axe Valley are likely to be a little less bumpy than the rollercoasters. Wildwood Escot (20 minutes) has softer attractions too, like slides, play areas and animal activities for younger kids. Beach day? There’s a beach in Seaton (15 minutes) and in Axmouth (20 minutes) too. If the sand and sea just isn’t cutting it one day, you may want to schedule in some time in the 18th-century Bicton Park Botanical Gardens (25 minutes) or Pecorama (15 minutes), which has model railways and a light railway above Beer. The south-coast attractions aren’t all about the cliffs, coves and coastal paths. Animals share the limelight too, especially at The Donkey Sanctuary (10 minutes) and the World of Country Life (40 minutes), which has vintage vehicles and chances to feed lambs and chicks.
