What customers say
A unique, well-priced campsite with a military history theme. Praised for dark skies & remote, quiet location. Friendly owner, clean, basic facilities w/ hot showers. Great value, though some noted basic amenities & occasional road noise. Ideal for a no-frills, historically interesting stay.

Liked Howitzer. Nice flat pitch. Dark skies and Milky Way. Nice price!
Disliked Noise from road and helicopter. Very basic facilities- which is reflected in the price so not a complaint.

Liked Location
Disliked Pod wasn't ready, the owner was more interested in putting up a marquee which was right in front of our accommodation & we weren't able to park our vehicle next to us.
We were asked to wait for him to clean the pod by which time we'd had enough & we left.

From the manager: sorry you had to wait for the pod to be ready, check in is after 3pm and pod was ready by 3.15pm, I did explain this when you arrived and you appeared fine , sorry you felt the need to leave after I had said the pod was ready without offering an explanation, perhaps our site just wasn't for you.

Military camping pod (three person)
Liked Very Welcoming Host, who took the time to give us a tour of the Museum.
The location was absolutely stunning, close to amnesties and also some stunning beaches caves and foot paths. The stars at night makes you feel like you’re in space. All the basic utilises were working and the shower had hot water. Would definitely come back again. Plenty of green space for children to play in and historic batteries and anti air missiles to keep you entertained.

Liked The site was clean well maintained-
Ian was lovely very welcoming chatty and showed us round when we arrived, reached out via text prior to arrival which we liked.
The site has a portaloo toilet and shower, both were really clean. Shower was powerful and hot!
Can’t say I’ve been in a portaloo shower before, but it definitely wasn’t a bad experience!
This site wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea but for £16 a night we thought it was fantastic!

Military camping pod (three person)
Liked We loved the quirkiness of being in a spacious open field on our own space with army vehicles surrounding us. Staff were very helpful attentive, friendly and available for our questions and any support we needed. The army truck pod had all the basic cooking requirements. Had our own porta loo and nice hot shower.
Disliked It is a very basic accommodation, luckily we had brought a mattress topper which helped ease the comfort as this could have been a less comfy experience. As we had fantastic weather a fridge would have been a bonus.

Stayed in both pods. One is quite small. Facilities basic.

Best budget camp site on the lizard 🦎
Primitive grass campsite
Liked Liked everything about this site. Firstly ease of communication, Ian answered the phone straight away when I called. Super friendly and so helpful. Even showed me and my son around the museum on what probably should of been his day off ! (Sunday)
This site has everything you need at an incredibly reasonable price. Sad to read the negative review below. Someone clearly didn't see the point and the work / passion involved in keeping the history of this place alive so we can all learn about it. Plus these people are volunteers !!! Location is great for exploring all around the lizard area. Highly recommend staying here. Shower and toilet spotlessly clean. Shower was lovely and hot. We loved it. Thank you Ian we appreciated your time !

Military camping pod (two person)
Liked The pod has everything you need for a glamping adventure including a lovely warm shower and your own private toilet.
Ian was so helpful and gave us a behind the scenes tour of the museum when we arrived.
We loved how quiet the area was, there was other campers on site but we were tucked away and wouldn’t have even known they were there
