  • Back to basics farm site half an hour’s walk from Crackington Haven
  • A 15-minute drive from Boscastle and 20 minutes from Tintagel Castle
  • Footpath to the coastal path and firepits and wood available
Get your surfboards waxed and the bucket and spades packed, for Crackington Campsite is a relaxed farm site in excellent rural surrounds with proper loos and an excellent hot shower. Draw up a map and no doubt it won’t be long until you’re circling or bookmarking beaches, castles and coastal walks. The closest beach, Crackington Haven, is just half an hour’s walk or a five-minute drive from the farm for surfing sessions and rockpool rummaging followed by a nice portion of something from the bistro-style café and family-friendly pub by the beach. The site should tick more boxes… Back to basics? Yes. Dog-friendly. Yes. Permits campfires? That, too – there are even firepits and wood available. There’s a footpath over the farm straight to the coastal path, which branches off southwest towards Boscastle or northeast towards Widemouth Bay and Bude’s beaches. The North Cornish coast has lots to tempt guests, especially Tintagel Castle 25 minutes’ drive away. The location also checks out for conveniences, not just beach days and outings across the coast; there’s a village shop 10 minutes’ walk away and a village playground within the same distance.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely stay at Crackington campsite. Peaceful and relaxing. It was great to have the use of a fire pit which made it really magical for the children. The facilities were exceptionally clean and the shower was hot! Will definitely be back!

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Great easy access to the south west coast path. Crackington Haven is a 30min stroll through beautiful fields and along a trail through woodland. Perfect for families with slightly older children comfortable walking. The fields are naturally very steep, great workout after a drink at the local pub.

The campsite was very quiet and peaceful, during high season this was very welcomed. Perfect for all looking for a no frills traditional campsite offering beautiful scenery, good vibes and lovely hospitality.

There's a couple of toilets although despite being a full campsite never presented any issues and was always very clean and well stocked with paper, hand wash etc.

There's a single shower cubicle which was well maintained and very clean. Although with the sea only a 30min walk away you can jump in everyday like we did.

There's washing facilities for crockery, sinks etc. perfect for cleaning up after a feast.

There's a gentle slope on the site but nothing to be concerned about, there's enough space to find a flat area to pitchup.

There's plenty of bins, recycling point and you can purchase local vegetables from the farm and wood for your fire pits.

It really is a perfect place to camp and a wonderful part of the county to explore with secret beaches dotted along the coastland and stunning walks in both directions.

Our faves were dipping in the sea at The Strangles, hiking to Boscastle and further afield to Tintagel where you can bathe and swim at Bossiney Cove. Or take a woodland walk through St Nectern's Glen.

We'll certainly be back and would recommend to all.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Pleasant informal site in a great location.

Disliked We stayed on a busy weekend, there were a few too many people camping for the facilities provided. At least one more shower is needed.

Grass too long, needed a cut.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Rural peaceful site, a large field, pitch where you like. Facilities are simple but clean: 1 x shower & 2 loos available plus dish wash, recycling and bin area. Lovely walk down into Crackington Haven, details on a poster in the shower area. No WiFi but 4G/5G works fine.

Local attractions

Boots on, and off to Boscastle (15 minutes’ drive) you go. The boots will come in handy for pottering around the trails to Valency Valley and its ancient woodland. One of the most famed spots in Boscastle is the spectacular Museum of Witchcraft and Magic (although whether it can possibly be more spellbinding than a cream tea or pasty from the harbour café is open for debate). Bude (20 minutes), a little to the north, has a big choice of surfing beaches and some golf courses. Summerleaze is the town beach, but keep on checking out your options, which also include Sandymouth Bay Beach (half an hour) owned by the National Trust and backing onto the splendid Coombe Valley or Widemouth Bay (20 minutes). Down south, take off for Port Isaac (35 minutes), a filming location for the TV series Doc Martin, and home to a just-stunning harbour. It’s just above Polzeath (40 minutes), a favourite among the surfing crowds.
