  • Dog-friendly wild camping site surrounded by woodlands in West Sussex
  • A 20-minute drive from Leith Hill and 35 minutes from the South Downs
  • Three pubs, food shop and butcher a short walk away; barbecues allowed
All about wild camping and the outdoors, the stroke of nature runs rather deep at Sands Farm Weekend Camping surrounded by green woodlands and the West Sussex countryside. The dog-friendly site just outside Warnham is 35 minutes’ drive away from the South Downs National Park and geared up for an off-grid, wild-styled stay in a remote field. There aren’t too many distractions around this site, unless you’re counting the footpaths and bridleways close by, including a couple directly accessible from the site. The local village 20 minutes’ walk away may also play a part in reeling you in, as it has a dainty church, small food shop, three pubs (two serving food all day) and a butchers to help you get the goods ready for a barbecue back on site. You’ll have a nice amount of privacy for your barbecue, as each pitch has its own mown patch in the long grass. The facilities on site are kept simple for an authentic wild camping break, so this means you’ll have access to portable toilets and running water at all times – but there’s no chemical waste disposal or electric here. While you already have a typical English village close by, you may want to chase down any missing essentials from your luggage in Horsham, a larger market town 10 minutes’ drive away, or the supermarket 10 minutes down the road.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely welcome and very easy check in process. Pitches are allocated on a first come, first served basis so you can drive around and choose from any that are available. The pitches are a good size and well spaced out. There are plenty of toilets for the number of pitches and all clean and tidy. The site is next to some woodland, with lots of foot paths running through. It's a very nice walk into the village of Warnham, where there is a decent little shop and two nice pubs with lovely gardens. We ate at the Greets Inn and the food was very nice.

Disliked The field goes down hill from the top entrance to the woods at the bottom, so most of the pitches are on a slope. It took us a while to position our vehicle so that the roof tent would be level for sleeping. We booked very last minute and didn't check the location properly before hand. It is worth considering that the site is very close to Gatwick airport. Noise form the planes landing and taking off is loud and goes on late into the night, then starts again at 6am. Obviously this is not a fault of the site or its owner but we didn't get much sleep.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked A very tidy, family friendly and relaxed camping space, with loads of space allocated to each tent. Andy was really helpful, and we enjoyed our 2 nights there! Our 4 year old had an amazing time as well :)
Great woods and fields around to just walk around, look at birds, enjoy nature etc.
Make sure you also visit Warnham Local Nature Reserve whilst you're there - an absolute must see!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great setting and well marked walks nearby. 2 good pubs in Warnham village about 20 mins walk away. The owner Andy is really helpful, has a off-grid feel about it.

Disliked Some pitches are a bit close together but it was very quiet so not an issue. No showers which my 12 year old son was thrilled about!
