  • Quiet, well-maintained adults-only site in Shadoxhurst
  • A 30-minute drive from Dungeness, Rye and Winchelsea
  • Well-stocked on-site fishing lake with roach, rudd and perch
Planning a Kentish kid-free getaway? With five acres of woodland, field and lake to its name, The Firs Fishery and Campsite covers more than a few bases. Green surrounds? Check. Low levels of light pollution? Absolutely. Quiet adults-only site? Indeed. Oh, and here's something to reel you in – this place has a fishing lake for the exclusive use of guests.  This site may be in a rural spot, but this is far from the back of beyond. The village of Shadoxhurst is about a mile away (that's a 20-minute stroll through country lanes if you fancy stretching your legs), with a medieval chapel and top-rated local pub to its name. Looking for big-city fashion without leaving the countryside? Ashford designer outlet is under a quarter of an hour's drive away. The Kent coast is also close at hand, with seaside towns like Dungeness, Rye and Winchelsea all reachable in around half an hour.  Back at base, plenty of space for dog exercise means a warm welcome for four-legged companions. Keep your eyes peeled for animals of the wild variety, too: one of the lakes on site has been given over to nature, and friendly waterfowl are known to waddle over the grass from time to time. For food, outdoor cookouts are on the cards as long as your barbecue is raised off the ground (you can also prebook a firepit but please don't bring your own along).

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Booked at the last minute but what a lovely find. we only stayed the one night but would have loved to have stayed longer.
Perfect for the dogs as just out the gate to the woods.
The hosts were so lovely too. We would definitely recommend and stay again.
We have only given a 5 for facilities as there were no showers or washing up area. We have a campervan so have our own. 😊 Thank you

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Absolutely fantastic location, welcoming and very friendly hosts.

Disliked I really liked the hosts and the location, but they unfortunately have terrible neighbours. The dogs next door barked all night long and somone was riding a mopped back and forth into the late hours.
Cannot blame the hosts at all, feel bad for them having to deal with such terrible neighbours ruining everything for everyone.

From the manager: It is unfortunate that, sometimes the bye way is busy but not at night! I am sure we are not the only location where dogs bark, indeed we encourage dogs rather than children...... thanks for your comments.

Local attractions

There's a reason Kent is known as the 'Garden of England', you know: this part of the world is home to well-kept man-made landscapes and vistas of rolling farmland. Fans of the former may well appreciate teeing off at the local golf club (10 minutes' drive) or heading down to the Royal Military Canal (10 minutes) for bike rides along the water's edge. Rural ramblers, meanwhile, should check out the four-mile Wye Downs circular walk (25 minutes). If you'd like to make friends with some cute farm animals on your rural break, pay a visit to the Rare Breeds Centre (10 minutes). Meanwhile, for a sense of the area's history, stop by at stunning Bodiam Castle (30 minutes) – a proper castle, with a moat to cross and everything. Like to be beside the seaside? Dungeness' marshland landscape is home to abundant birdlife (pack your binoculars and head to the RSPB reserve to find out more), as well as an old lighthouse and the largest shingle beach in Europe (25 minutes). Head to the two genteel towns of Rye and Winchelsea, meanwhile, for castle ruins, independent book shops and vineyards, or scamper over to the dunes at Camber Sands (all around half an hour's drive).
