  • Wild 10-acre site on a farm on the outskirts of Blackpool
  • A 10-minute walk from a bus stop for central Blackpool
  • Wide range of farm animals to visit on site; firepits permitted
Do you have visions of yourself strolling the streets of Blackpool, settling on the beach for a picnic and trying all of the different amusements along the Central Pier? Or maybe it's a properly rural break that you've got in mind? Or perhaps… both? If that sounds promising, this base will surely get your attention: Whyndyke Farm is a 10-acre wild site on the outskirts of Blackpool, full of animals and lovely long grass. It’s easy to reach the town’s many attractions from this handy spot – and an impressive set this is indeed, as Blackpool is home to the likes of the Central Pier (lined with rides including a Ferris wheel), Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Zoo and the Blackpool Pleasure Beach theme park. The farm is a 10-minute walk from a bus stop with a route to central Blackpool. Otherwise, a 10-minute drive (or a bit longer if there's traffic) will do the trick. At this wild site, you’re welcome to set up wherever you like and then visit the wide range of animals on the farm (think pigs, cows, chickens and so on). The site's facilities are basic, including just clean toilets. However, it's a few minutes’ walk away from a petrol station with an ATM and a small shop. If you’re missing any campfire essentials, it's handy that a large supermarket is a 15-minute walk away. There’s also a carvery-style restaurant 15 minutes’ walk away should you want to tuck into a good filling meal one day.

What customers say

This basic, value-for-money campsite offers a friendly, wild camping experience close to Blackpool. Guests praise the helpful staff, fires allowed, and fun farm animals. While a "farmers field" with uneven pitches, and basic portaloos sometimes lacking in cleanliness/number, its location near shops & Blackpool transit is a major plus.

Primitive mixed tent or RV campsite

Liked It's a beautiful area lovely big space, there were calf, pigs and piglets at one side of the farm. The area was clean and well maintained. Most of the staff seemed friendly enough. Children are allowed to feed the animals. There is a petrol station at the entrance of the farm area.

Disliked Ok this one I was hoping I wouldn't have to fill out but here goes.
Firstly something that isn't to do with the business but something to be mindful of if your in the middle or to the right of the field (furthest away from the animals) during the night the road is very loud all night with either cars or motorbikes going up and down the road.
Secondly the toilets, there are 2 toilets (portable toilets) there, these were not cleaned or emptied when we first go there the kids used the toilet it already looked half full, the next day it was full to the top you could see all the waste and again still not emptied even by that evening however one member of staff did put more brown liquid into the toilet.
Thirdly they have a fair few dogs off lead which although they were small and cute were left to roam around while the cars were coming in and out at 2 separate occasions almost being ran over because they didn't tell the drivers the dogs were in front of the cars.
Lastly one member of staff in particular made me feel very uncomfortable he came way to close leaning into my window in my car meaning when he was talking to me he was spitting all over me then second time we were packing up to leave he could see we were busy and still he came to start talking to me and wouldn't leave me alone when I went to my car he followed me when I went to the end of the tent he followed me I felt very uncomfortable.

From the manager: Good evening,

Thank-you for taking the time to review your recent stay at our site. We appreciate any feedback and take negative feedback seriously to help us improve the experience for all our guests.
Unfortunately we cannot do anything about the road noise, which can only be reduced by pitching choice and wind direction.
Since your visit we have realised that as the site gets busier, we have had to improve and increase our cleaning regime, as with the emptying.
With regards to the dogs, the team are all now aware that while the dogs are free to roam on the farm, this isn't acceptable on the campsite, although they are all friendly and harmless.
The gentleman that has made you feel uncomfortable and his behaviour is of concern, is a volunteer with learning difficulties, we will talk to him and address this as part of our staff training.
We are so sorry that your experience has been affected by these issues and as a gesture of good will, would like to welcome you back for a free night.
Kind regards,

Back to basics site ideal wild camping experience.

Primitive mixed tent or RV campsite

Liked You can choose where to pitch up. Great size site. They have a little shop and you can order log burners and wood etc. There's a little wooded area just off the main field that campers can pitch up in.
The new shower is a great add on. £5 returnable deposit for the key. P. S the bins are on the lane as you enter the site. Easy to drop your rubbish as you leave.

Disliked The portable toilets. The weather was very hot. You could smell the toilets from a distance. I risked a visit once in the blue cubicle . Sign in the loo says flush before and after use but no flush in it. A lot of people were driving to Tesco to go to the toilet. The only other issue was people leaving rubbish around. There is a lot of longer grass and I nearly drove over a steel barbecue handle.

Primitive mixed tent or RV campsite

Liked Gem of a place and functional. Didn't use shower block as had motorhome so cannot comment but involves a cost. Chemical waste suitable burger van good twist for snacking and great burgers good quality and value for money. Even though large place kids and lots of people very quiet. Small farmyard animals good also pigs and calfs. Small shop on site but basic. Very good stay despite. Could do with more local information regarding walks places to stay.portaloos very clean but feel too little for all people staying.a lot more positives than negatives.

Disliked Not a lot of flexibility wanting to stay past 10am so could tske time at car boot and lack of information regarding Sunday car boot and change of exits.
Charges for use of shower not appropriate when paying for pitch also. Charging for a dog. Campsites are getting more like Ryanair. Be different and unique is the key. Dont follow the rest. Queues for toilets. Does not comply with welfare arrangements generally as not enough.

Liked Closeness to bustop for Blackpool. Large field plenty of room to pitch. Very friendly and helpful staff. Small shop on site and a food wagon for burgers etc. Large Tesco superstore nearby. The toilets were kept clean. Would definitely stay again.

Disliked Could do with a couple more toilets on site. Very busy road to cross for the bus stop which is at the Tesco store.

Local attractions

This a fine, fine spot for Blackpool adventures. Search the 80 wax figures at Madame Tussauds Blackpool (10 minutes’ drive) for celebrities and musicians you recognise, then for a splendid old-fashioned evening out, catch an event at The Blackpool Tower Ballroom (15 minutes), a ballroom with a sprung dance floor at the foot of the town’s Victorian tower. Blackpool is home to the Sandcastle Waterpark (10 minutes), which has over 18 different slides of all shapes and sizes. At Lowlands Farm Alpacas (five minutes), go on a stroll with some of the good-looking alpacas. If you've got kids who need to let off steam, you may want to plan a visit to the Ascent Trampoline Park Blackpool (five minutes). Keen skateboarders can tackle the ramps at Ramp City Skatepark (five minutes). While there’s plenty to do in and around Blackpool, perhaps you’d like to branch out with some birdwatching at RSPB Fairhaven Lake Visitor Centre & Shop (15 minutes) or RSPB Hesketh Out Marsh (50 minutes) and hikes in the Forest of Bowland National Landscape (from 25 minutes).
