What customers say
Remote, quiet site with spectacular Lake District views. Praised for its large, secure field, friendly owner, and local tips. Some desire better restrooms & recycling. Special, low-impact appeal, with many wanting it to stay just as it is.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Hidden gem! Gorgeous views, tranquil site, close to local towns and not too far away from Ullswater! Lovely river nearby too where you can kayak/go white water rafting. Ollie was a great host, looked after everyone and was very responsive. The site had a toilet and a water tap that was drinkable. Ollie was also very accommodating towards our anxious dog. Brilliant stay, will be back!
Disliked Nothing at all

Flat pitches, great views, helpful owner, lots to do in the area.
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Completely peaceful and relaxed place with lovely views, sunrises and sunsets. Amazing for stargazing - we were lucky with one unclouded night and it was stunning.
Ollie messaged us before we arrived so we had a number if we needed any help, then he later sent information about local facilities. He checked in on us personally as well - just a pleasant, nice person.
We went along to Pooley Bridge and used the Ullswater Steamers and the following day walked Bowscale Fell and swam in Bowscale Tarn. … both tourist sites about 40mins away.
Aira Force is a similar drive away but we couldn’t get parked … spaces all full by 11am.
Disliked First night there were only a couple of tents and the portaloo was super clean with water, toilet roll provided and a light on the wall.
Second night there were about 13 tents and the portaloo situation went downhill quickly! So, maybe another toilet or two would be beneficial.
The toilet light vanished with most of those 13 tents too so just shows that when people try to provide better facilities, others spoil it. Nothing the owner can do about that though.

Off grid experience, with the best hosts ever.
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Fantastic hosts who checked in on us and made sure we had everything we needed. The views are fantastic with a real sense of peace and quiet and amazing dark skies ona clear night. We were looking for a more off grid experience but the water and portaloo on site are a definite bonus and the petaloo was very clean and obviously looked after. You can hire a fire pit and logs for £20 which was great and it's nice to be able to support the hosts in this way.
Disliked Not a dislike really, but we struggled to find the entrance, a what 3 words added to info would be great, other than that, it was perfect!

Great place to spend some quality time.
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Took my teenage son camping and were joined by an old friend, had a great time just being in the field playing games, enjoying the views and spending quality time enjoying the tranquility with no touristy distractions (although there is a good phone signal for EE). We were visited by the friendly & helpful owners a while after arrival rented rented a firepit and were told we could move the picnic bench to our plot if we wanted (which we did). Great place to take some time out!

Wonderful campsite, low-key in middle of nowhere. An absolute gem.
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked The most wonderful campsite. Literally in the middle of nowhere, no noise, no light pollution. No aerial cables. This will explain why no wifi or showers, but that comes with the appeal of somewhere so remote. Wonderful view of the whole of the Lake District from afar.
There is ok phone signal in most parts of the field - good for weather forecast, planning walks etc. Dry stone walls on all four sides of the field enable a sheltered pitch if windy, whatever the direction of the wind. There were some mushrooms towards end of the field (ie away from the entrance). Don’t know if poisonous, but perhaps watch out if you have young children or dogs.
The site has only recently been started, and my prayer is that it does not change much because it is very special as it is.
Btw the entrance really is just the small wooden sign by a gate saying Parkhead Campsite. Drive through first field, camping is in second field. Ollie, presumably the farmer, is very communicative even at this busy time of year for farming.
Don’t go changing this 🙏
Disliked Nothing, except the comments asking for more facilities! Perhaps the portaloo could be replaced with a couple of eco-loos in due course - simple wooden huts with a wooden seat, a deep hole and supply of sawdust! Also, perhaps different bins for recycling. But nothing else, please keep it simple and low-impact 😊

Exellent campsite site for a quiet and relaxing stay.
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked The field was huge, we could pitch where we wanted, plenty of room, beautiful views. The owner made sure we were OK and comfortable and offered us a firepit with kindle with wood (which we took full advantage of, at an additional low cost.) He also sent us places we could, visit, eat and shop in the area. Absolutely fantastic campsite and we will be back
Disliked Only 1 toilet on the whole field.

We can only apologise that the bin facilities wern't made made more obvious to yourselves but thankyou for leaving your rubbish tidy for us too easily collect. Actions will be taken to make the bin/recycling facilities more obvious for future guests which will hopefully resolve this issue.
