Hardstanding pitch with electricity

  • Adults-only Cheshire touring pitches on a small site near Nantwich
  • A 40-minute drive to Chester; 10 minutes to Hack Green nuclear bunker
  • Dogs welcome, with plenty of great places to walk nearby
The folk that run The Stables are very fond of their lovely area – so they decided to open up a small touring site that would allow others to come and share the experience of being surrounded by the Cheshire countryside. They’ve kept things very simple here, just installing a couple of hardstanding pitches (each with a grass area too) with access to chemical disposal and a recycling point. (Please note that does mean no toilets or showers provided, so you’ll need to be self-sufficient.) To maintain the peace of the place, it’s an adults-only setup here – but dogs are welcome (a good move, given that there are so many great walks around in the local area). Nantwich is less than 10 minutes’ drive away for a good cluster of places to eat out, but you may well prefer to pick up supplies at the town’s shops instead and get a barbecue going back at base (top tip: try to time your town trip for a time when there’s a market on – either the daily traditional market or the monthly farmers’ market). The small number of guests means there’s plenty of peace to soak up on site – but there are also a good clutch of places to visit nearby (including fishing, antiques shopping and a not-very-secret-anymore nuclear bunker) and you can hit the historic streets of Chester in about 40 minutes for a change of scenery.

Power optional grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: We enjoy visiting this site, it’s quiet, the owners are pleasant and we enjoy the peace. This is our 2nd visit and will continue to visit in the future.

The site is basic, no toilet block or showers and we like this as we use our own facilities. Just remember your coins for the electric metre.

We don’t tend to venture far as we go for the peace and just walk to the local village for any supplies wanted (about a 20 min walk)

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: The site has nice hard standing pitches. Looks out onto a nice grassy area, and field. Well kept. Good summer pitch and central location.

Disliked: Out of the 5 pitches, 3 taken up with workers caravans, with large amount of rubbish around a few and a car with a flat tyre. More of a summer pitch, as the metered electric is at present 56kw per hour. We used gas to heat, cook and for refrigeration.

From the manager: I was sorry to hear that you didn’t really like your stay and as I told you my mum had pneumonia and I’ve been away from the park for a couple of days the other caravans are not workers one is an elderly gentleman who has come away for a break and the other is Young couple who has been with me for a few weeks you told me your electricity meter wasn’t right so you stayed three nights and paid me £12. I knocked the money off for you again so sorry you didn’t like your stay thank you.

Liked: Very welcoming greeting from the site owner, Julie. The Stables is a quiet, well kept, secure site. Fresh water, elsan point, recycling bins and metered EHU available. The town of Nantwich is within walkable distance and takes approximately 50 minutes.

Local attractions

Make sure you’ve got some space left in your tourer, as there’s some good retail therapy going on around here – as well as those markets in Nantwich, you might like to stop by at Dagfields Craft & Antiques or Bridgemere Garden Centre (both 10 minutes’ drive). There are lots of shops in Chester (40 minutes) too, of course – along with some gorgeous black-and-white houses, a medieval cathedral and the only intact set of defensive city walls in the UK. It’s easy enough to make a full day out in the city, but you could tag on a trip to Chester Zoo or Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet too if you like. Staying closer to home, it’s worth seeking out Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker (10 minutes) for a dip into 20th-century military history – and you may also like to book in a gin tour and tasting at Three Wrens Distillery (10 minutes). It’s about the same drive time to Coole Acres Fishery for those who are handy with a rod.
